Southport Visiter going downhill fast?
I haven't bought the Southport Visiter for a while, but as they seem to have stopped delivering the midweek edition down our road, and we have people staying this weekend, I thought I'd get a copy to see what's on. There is a supplement called "Seven Days" which purports to tell us what is on in the town. Absolute rubbish! It's full of syndicated copy - 5 pages on the new Star Wars film, and despite having a page dedicated to Food and Drink - no mention of the Southport Food and Drink Festival, which is on all weekend!
The standard of journalism seems to have sadly declined (no wonder as there only seem to be two journalists writing all the content between them). One story starts "A Frontline NHS worker has spoke out".
Very sad.....

downhill
It went downhill years ago.
It's full of spelling mistakes, geographical errors and things happening down streets that don't exist and I noticed the other week after skimming through one at my mum's that it's wafer thin and it stinks of something.
It is also concentrating on Liverpool more these days.

Hows about some of the posters becoming volunteer freelance reporters then and offering your services? Going by the responses on this site - it should be a hilarious read!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
That's news to me.
When did it change?
Orwell said "If there is hope, it lies in the proles." Whilst champagne socialists see diversity idealised at university, the common folk experience it first hand in their neighbour hoods.

We still get one. Wish we didn't. It's full of the same old crap every week; most of it dull stuff written by amateurs from various community organisations. Its demise can't come soon enough. #SaveTrees

Not true.
The 31st May edition is titled 'Southport Visiter', although the word Southport is in much smaller type and a different colour.

Midweek one is just The Visiter because it covers Sefton and West Lancs as papers such as the Bootle Times, Crosby Herald etc no longer exist.

it used to be a good local read with some content and bulk, but sadly its all but a couple of pages of adds and bit of news already had.shame as it was bought out of locals support, and weekly buy.but now its lost its customer loyalty, and its lack of return for that support.another could do better.maybe theres a niche to be had there.

Rather read the news for Southport online,on either of the websites,as MORE than half the news is'nt for Southport residents, and have already been told or heard about anything online, and usually days before the Midweek and Friday editions are even printed.
And there is only a fraction of any incidents that happen in the town,as they do NOT want to let any tourists being put off by articles that are not good for the town, and areas around it,as in Formby and Banks etc. They will only print the "Good" news, and never the "Bad".And like people have previously said, there are that many incorrect spellings of the roads, and streets,as the staff doing the typing never "Proof read" before putting the news into print,as most of them obviously do NOT live in Southport due to the many errors made. The same with the endless pages of irrelevant advertisements which are printed on 75%-80% of the newspapers pages.
There looked to be a serious incident by the Scarisbrick Hotel last night,as the Police were there for well over 2 hours, and you can bet there will be NO news about that incident being put into either the Midweek,or the Friday edition of the local papers, and it has also not been reported on any website as yet ? Which seems a bit strange,if it was something serious that had happened, because as yet I have not seen or heard any reports about it.

Maybe it wasn't that serious then.
And the only way the Visiter are likely to know about it is if Merseyside Police put out a press release about it.

The Regional Press across the North of England have united over the Northern Rail fiasco, dozens of titles which are rivals working together.
One notable exception, does this title not care about the local residents problems?

The Liverpool Echo is on that list and all web traffic for the Southport Visiter from Google or typed directly seems to end up at the Echo anyway rather than the old Visiter site. The title looks like it is being merged with the Echo as no longer viable. The Visiter seems to be a one man and his dog operation at this point that couldn't campaign on anything. Almost everything is written by volunteers or is syndicated content.
