I wonder if residents back then blamed the council for the sea retreating...

Amazing looking at some of the street names on the old map,and how many of them have changed over the years.Must have been a nightmare for postmen when they altered the names.

Interesting image showing the Reservoir for the Victoria Baths shown on the map.
The day that God created Akita's......He just sat back and smiled

    Great map thank you.

I wonder who Andow was with his house and hills?

Something that is striking when I look at ancient pictures of Bury
is the views people used to have due to amount of farmland and absence of great trees.

Houses were built with views and named accordingly along one side of a road in desirable areas.
Later housing built blocking on the opposite side of the street.

Industrial streets given the name of trades and commerce housed there.

Similar Biblical names given to areas until the Victorians favoured the French touch.

Fleetwood Road with its Pub and Bowling Green, right at the Spring Tide waters edge - nice!

    No sign of 'Little Ireland'?

I don't see how what you said is relevant, as this map was created between 1845-47, as per the thread title.
