Southport Hospital
Thought the local hospital had created a new initiative having super fit staff. Came past it this afternoon to see a Doctor/Male Nurse complete with white coat and stethoscope, running out from the hospital and legging it down the road to the roundabout. As I drew closer to the corner, there were about three people standing on the path. The Hospital staff member spoke to the people, there was some laughter and then he took hold of the man in a dressing gown and began leading him back to the hospital - obviously an escapee!
This post actually is about the Ormskirk/Southport A & E department. At the moment the decision as to the location for this department puts Southport just ahead of Ormskirk. It would be good to have both hospitals with an A & E departments. With all the extensive new building projects in Southport, and hundreds more people moving into the area - is Southport Hospital large enough to cope? It is operating at almost full capacity now. With housing projects on both sides of the hospital - it would be impossible for any expansion of the building. Was this considered by Sefton council?

Reality says build one in between ,sell the 2 to the private sector.
Then seriously think about making a charge for visits and appointments.

Having A&E at Ormskirk makes no sense at all, for Skem Residents Wigan is almost as close and Aintree is almost as close for Ormskirk, the problem is Ormskirk is the better site.
Most of the building works going on near Kew are in West Lancs not Sefton.

Also it's a scandal that there is only one A&E servicing Southport through to Skelmersdale. Utter disgrace.
