I was the toughie with my three and kept them on a very tight rope.
I have to laugh today, as I see my daughter rearing her four with a strictness more than I did to my three
My three all finished University and all hold professional positions...
Threats of punishment have to be carried out, otherwise you lose their respect. I don't say that it was/is an easy passage, it takes a lot of hard work and giving a lot of yourself to share your life with them. Don't let their tears fool you.
It's all give and take and trust. Share their interests.
Gaud, I was taken abseiling, cycling, you name it I was there. The kids love you joining in to their hobbies ...
I think they have to help around the house, minimum jobs. Give their spare time to helping others.
That must have been so hard shippy.
Mr Hamble was always around for moral support though his long unsocial work hours meant the early years pushed him into limited coping with the stunts children pull

Many children have an awful home life.
School should be a sanctuary from violence and mental cruelty.
Discipline has to avoid repeating the failures of parents.
Again - it is the liberalism of today's politics that is to blame. There are no poorly brought up children! Children who misbehave are now said to have ADHD, or autism or any number of disorders - mood disorders, psychosis, conduct disorder, trauma, impulsiveness, etc., until the authorities wake up and realise that young children need to have direction - which is exactly what discipline means to show young people what traditional values are and where boundaries lie - there will be no solutions.
Many older people were exposed to strict discipline during their schooling. The cane and slipper for misbehaving at school, was more to discourage those who had the potential to misbehave. Those who received such punishment were not harmed and suffered no disadvantage from it, and many went home to receive a belting from parents for misbehaving at school. It did not stop a great number going on to Universities and professional careers.

Is it 100% of homes where discipline starts? Or, maybe, 50%?
Have you a figure?
Also, have you a figure for how much discipline there is in schools today compared with 20, 30, 50 yrs ago?

So you agree with giving children labels instead of facing reality?

Totally agree with you regarding Saids comments
The state of mind of a child can of course be influenced by the environment in which the child is brought up in.
We have witnessed the case with the little Bulger murderers.
ADHD is a chemical deficiency in the brain, causing lack of concentration . Hence many children are given Ritalin to help them get back on track...

This is a perfect example of how children shouldn't be brought up.
Shame on that grandmother. I can't see anything funny at all in encouraging this child to be rude...
