    Security Lights / CCTV

    Hi

Can anyone recommend someone, or a company in the Southport area that can fit security lights and cctv to home?

3 bed property with easy access to everything.

Or if you can, please send a PM.

    Thanks

Security lights? I have had several arguments with neighbours who for some unknown reason have decided to fit unnecessary security lights to the back of their properties - perhaps it is a fashion thing!

It would also appear that they have fitted these things themselves, or have called in inexperienced tradesmen to fit them. as several breach the local laws.

People do not realise that it is an offence to fit Security lights that are too bright, it is an offence to have lights that affect neighbour's properties. Such lights should Only come on when they are activated by an intruder, should remain on for no longer than one hour maximum on domestic properties, should be angled so that they do not shine on neighbouring properties and should be of a very low wattage.

I do not know of anyone who does fit these professionally - but, they should be aware of local laws if they are any good.

A link to, or details of, the "local laws" would be useful.

I have 2 houses in a nearby cul de sac whose security lights shine in through my bedroom window. They are completely unnnecessary and I'm having to keep my blind down and curtains shut because of this.
It was fine before new people moved into said houses. I don't know the people at all and would have difficulty asking them to reposition the things.
They always come on when there is no one in front of them or walking up the drive. They are a pain in the proverbial rear end. I have one but have decided not to have it fixed again because I have adequate light from next door and a nearby lamp post.

You could always drop a tactful note through the door. You could say something like:

" We have not been introduced, so I apologise for not being able to address this to you personally. It is just the matter of your security lights. I am not sure if you are aware, but the angle and brightness of these lights are affecting my sleep and causing me some distress. Please would you be so kind as to reposition these and fit lower wattage bulbs to the legal limits. Thank you so much.

    Yours faithfully,

Your neighbours should act immediately and sort them out. Especially if they are completely unaware that the lights are affecting you. If they do not do so within twenty four hours, or if they send a rude response - complain to the council without hesitation. The council's telephone number is 01704 533133

I can find no UK laws specifically relating to security lights.

"Light" can be regarded as a Statutory Nuisance as detailed in the Environmental Protection Act 1990 with minor amendments added by the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005.

Causing a Statutory Nuisance is a criminal offence, and it is the local authority that takes the action. This is different from common law nuisance, where complainants take the action themselves to the civil courts. For you to have a claim for Statutory Nuisance, the lighting must be 'prejudicial to health or a nuisance' and harm your enjoyment of your land.

I got my Swann CCTV (infrared night vision with audio) cameras from Maplin (Aintree store) and got them installed through them. I imagine they may install security lights too. Staff in-store are very helpful in giving advice on the variety of CCTV cameras they have.

A few years ago the One Vision installed Security lights to all the houses in my area. All the houses alongside my property & behind it had them. In the beginning I could go out in my Garden at night time & it was like day light almost. It had more to do with the angle the lights shone down. Over the years most lights have either been turned off, blown & not been replaced or they have been adjusted. Nowadays there are only a couple of lights which are intrusive.
At a time we are supposedly concerned about light pollution I was surprised that One Vision fitted such badly shielded & directed lights.
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms ... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants, they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

Why should anyone else's choice be detrimental to you - are they superior to you? NO! So if these lights still annoy you, drop the offenders a note, or go round and see them and explain how these lights affect you. If nothing is done, report them to the council. There are various Acts that fall within UK Law that can be used to protect someone against light pollution

It was One Visions choice & ill considered. My Boys were younger then & at night time, i could still easily see in their bedroom with the blind down, curtains closed & light off in the bedroom. It was that bright.
I left it because I didn't want to come into conflict with about 20 neighbours. The lights were sometimes left on all night. I was concerned in case my Boys couldn't sleep but I needn't have worried.

For Christ sake the OP asked for a recommendation for an installer , not a law degree . A recognized installer will know the legal specifications .
