True enough...Property prices also go some way towards keeping the more undesirable elements at bay.

There is much to be said for life on the coast:

* Fresh air arrives straight off the sea - well, most of the time.

* More sunshine than living further inland, hence 'Sunny Southport'.

* Milder temperatures thanks to the Gulf Stream effect.

* No pesky hills to negotiate either.

* Many miles of dunes, pinewoods and bracing coastal walks to enjoy.
