With the announcement that there won't be a Typhoon Display at this years airshow and the Red Arrows only coming on the Friday (from MOD website) it will be interesting to see how they will fill the gaps.

Two of the biggest crowd pullers not being there Sat/Sun, they're going to have to get something spectacular to pull in the crowds.

Not to worry though as they'll both be at Blackpool.

Sad really, Southport has the situation to put on as good a show as anywhere, no runway sure, but the display area is not troubled by needing to overfly built up areas or even roads, can actually display closer to the crowd line than many shows, good run in for pilots to see exactly where they are even at low level, but content has gone down in last years shows.

Hope some sort of fast jet content is booked, or forget it for a lot of people I'm an aviation enthusiast, but would not bother just to watch a bunch of assorted light aircraft poodle about.

To date only confirmed bookings are Reds Friday evening only, BoB memorial flight, Blades three days and the Tutor display team Sat and Sun seeing the show is in July most booking should be showing up by now.

Who are the Blue Arrows? as far as I'm aware the French teams comprise the Rafale display team, which is the equivalent of the Typhoon or Tornado team, or the Patrouille de France flying the Alpha jet, the closest equivalent to the the Red Arrows.

I believe they are actually called La Patrouille Acrobatique de France, known as La PAF. Their Alpha jets are dark blue. They're pretty good

Think their original full title is even longer, can't remember it without looking it up, incidentally the longest running formation team in the world, yes they are good.

I watch the airshow for free from our back garden!

Well most of it, as the planes fly over our house on the way to the beach/sea.


Might miss some of the lower flying planes etc but from the bridge close to our house the view is as good (if not better) than being on the beach!
