Police Authority Spending
The Police Authorities are to create 'crying rooms' for female employees experiencing menopausal conditions?? (Metro, Mail etc.,) There are to be special rooms for women who suffer from hot flushes and low self esteem while going through the menopause. The rooms will have temperature controlled thermostats and doors will be close to their desks etc.,
Police from various regions have wasted £600,000 by putting in the wrong fuel in their cars. The cars are now to be fitted with talking reminders and clear labels?? (Mail, Independant, etc.,)
Are the stresses of Police Work so serious that it has an effect on their mental state?

I hope they really aren’t called ‘crying rooms’ as I don’t know any menopausal woman who cries because of it. As most women will be 50 plus, I doubt there will be too many female officers on the beat who are menopausal (maybe some office base ones who can sit at their desks instead) - more pregnant younger women in the force (for the first few months at least I imagine). Men are lucky that they don’t have periods, don’t have their bodies wrecked with pregnancy/birth and don’t have to go through the menopause. Believe me, the menopause is completely debillitating for many women and a good employer would try to help a woman through it, just as they would anyone going through an illness - which is how it can feel for many women. It can knock you for six.
I am sure the rooms would be used for any member of staff if needed. Unlike you Little Londoner, I am all for equal opportunities. I earned respect and was treated as an equal by all the men I have worked with (in businesses with at least 80% male) as not only did I expect it, and give it back, but I earned their respect with my hard work and attitude. It isn’t about us and them - we all worked as a team. I totally agree that some jobs where physical strength is required is beyond the capacity of many women, so I am not someone who agrees with employing a woman for equality sake. I expect men to treat women with respect and women to do the same back. I don’t expect favouritism just because of gender.

'Was treated as an equal' and 'don't expect favouritism' is a paradox. Men working together do not treat each other with respect in general.

I have worked with plenty of men in industrial environments and they did treat each other with respect. We all had a laugh and a joke and would be quite sarcastic with each other, but there was no real disrespect involved - and we all knew it.

I meant treated as an equal in business terms, not that they spoke about women or sex to me as they would their male workmates - just as women don’t do with men. We do talk about sex and men too - it isn’t just men who do that.
