Npower smart meter question
We've had an appointment sent to us to say we can have a smart meter fitted.
Has anybody on had an npower smart meter fitted?
Are there any pros and cons to having one?

They contacted me via email & 2 text messages. I rang to cancel them installing one as I don't want one. Another text message saying that they would be here on Feb 25th tried to cancel again. We won't be in next Monday 25th
I don't want to see how much I am using when I watch TV, boil a kettle etc
It has been said that when helping people change their behaviour – “the spirit in which help is offered” is the most important aspect, more than the degree of skills and knowledge of the helper!

So you don't know whether they are any good or not then but you answered the enquiry!
We have one and it saves me the physically impossible task of getting under the stairs to read the meters my bills are always up to date and NOT estimated and when you swap suppliers it does not cause any problems giving readings etc.

The great smart meter rip-off: Energy giants will use devices to DOUBLE the cost of power when you need it most.

The main driver for the the introduction of Smart Meters is from the industry to enable time of day tariffs to be rolled out in the domestic market.

If that is so, they won the fight here in Norway. Smart meters are being installed as we speak (mine is already in place) by a decision passed by our Parliament!

Most smartmeters that have been installed sofar are not swoppable between suppliers.

Just trying to make it more complicated for anyone trying to change supplier, the energy suppliers have been forced to accept that customers can swap, they just throw another obstacle in the way. The theory is that new meters fitted today are compatible with a national system, but it is equally clear that many older meters will have to be changed again.
Of course whether we want them or not wonder who will pay for them???

Statkraft is state-owned, but the majority are private or in the hands of the local authoriites.

The cost of all this is, of course, put on our bills. The installer said that there were moves to make these meters universal but so far that hasn't happened.
However, I do find the fact that I don't have to give meter readings and therefore my bills are not estimated, useful. I don't like the readings going into orange or even red when I switch on an appliance but it will make me put the washing out to dry more often rather than use the drier when the weather gets warmer. For now, Ihave to turn the meter to face the wall!

A certain employee of the companies involved warned me never to have one fitted! I will stick with that.
