Thread: Metro Mayor

    Metro Mayor

Southport should not come under the same governing body as Liverpool. The areas that the proposed Mayor will be controlling are mainly Liverpool districts - that probably means that only a small proportion of the funding will be allocated to Southport.
Southport has the potential of being the most important tourist attraction of any of those areas - but if the plans proposed for Southport go ahead, the town will look like every other modern town in the UK with huge blocks of concrete buildings with no character - there will be no special attraction to draw people to the region. If, on the other hand - Southport maintained its Victorian appeal, just as Llandudno has done, then perhaps it would be as popular as Llandudno is now. People travel many miles to reach Llandudno because it is different. The council there refuses to change the character of the town and that has been highly beneficial to the inhabitants of Llandudno.
If Southport becomes a miniature version of Liverpool City, with huge buildings blocking out the sunshine, creating cold, dull, dark regions and the installation of useless obstacles in pedestrian areas - instead of having a bright sunny town with greenery and parks - then we will never regain the title for the best floral seaside resort again - and are all doomed!

If it went under the control of Lancashire then it would be the same siuation all the Tourism funding would head down the M55 to Blackpool.

Could agree more with what you say about Llandudno , go for many breaks there , always nicely presented , always busy , Qaulity shopping , reastraunts, and attractions , and some very nice hotels .
There are currently some very important decisions to be made about Southport as a tourist attraction , and I hope the right decisions are made .
    REST IN PEACE THE 96.

The people that run Llandudno have a plan and everything they do centres around preserving the character of the town. These people care about their town and appreciate the value of what they have.
