There are many who would rather have seen the killing just go on and on (about 120 a year for 30 years) than do a deal with the warring parties. I for one, prefer the sound of silence to the smell of cordite on the mainland's streets.

That sounds like a statement that is normally used for announcing the demise of a great statesman.

A terrorist is a terrorist. He could have answered the questions from parents of murdered children. He didn't.

Corbyn will be devastated.
McGuiness trained as a butcher's assistant.
Cordite can turn the skin yellow.

I too will refrain from commenting.
I know this may be a disappointment to many and I hope, with all humility and sincerity, that this restraint doesn't result in any unpleasantness, either within this small and peculiar community or, indeed, in the larger international diplomatic circles in which I frequently move.
However, my urge for restraint is undeterred. Furthermore, if I were to show any lack of restraint in my refraining, I wouldn't then be demonstrating restraint, which goes counter to my original position and would display an unpardonable and uncharacteristic lack of restraint.
So, in summary, I will refrain from commenting.

The most important thing is to be unambiguous.
How dare you call Southport peculiar!
Will you be going to the funeral?

Conservative peer Lord Tebbit, whose wife was paralysed when the IRA bombed a hotel in Brighton during the Conservative Party conference in 1984
Quote
............."He knew that the IRA were defeated because British intelligence had penetrated right the way up to the army council and that the end was coming.
He then sought to save his own skin and he knew that it was likely he would be charged before long with several murders which he had personally committed and he decided that the only thing to do was to opt for peace.........."

It states he died of a rare heart condition, this can't be true because the little s**t didn't have a heart.

Was it worth the effort logging in and typing 4 paragraphs if you have nothing to say?

The strange thing about life is that we have to deal with how things are - not how we'd like them to be.
Some would have seen the troubles continue rather than sit down and talk and that went well didn't it.
Tebbit can say all he wants but how many did his government and it's policies drive to an early grave in the 80's.
The bottom line is you can only make peace with your enemies and, let's not forget, it gave Blair, Clegg and Cameron the troops to send off to get pointlessly killed elswhere.
