Thread: LJLA parking

    LJLA parking

Seeing as there's a new thread about 'product' reviews, I thought I'd see if anyone can recommend any of the 'official' car parks at Liverpool Airport.

We've never flown from there before, and some of the reviews are awful, including getting your car back smelling of cigarette smoke, or booking weeks in advance only to find it full when you get there.

We are reluctant to use the train, because knowing our luck they'll be on strike.

We use Liverpool quite a lot and always use the Multi Storey, costs a bit more but it’s undercover, secure and just a 1 min walk to the terminal building.
There are “on site” long stay that I believe are ok, but a longer walk (not good if it’s raining).
Personally, I would never use an “off site” or “meet and greet” service where you hand your keys over, you hear too many horror stories (cars damaged, parked on side roads / industrial estates and being driven by parking company staff while you are away).

    Thanks for that, Steed.

The more reviews I read, the more horrified I am!

The multi-storey certainly seems a better option, even though it costs more.

Even more now - it seems. There is talk of parking costs at Airports being increased. Better still - take the ferry!

I agree, we take the ferry to Spain every year. Airports have long been a place to go to, to get fleeced, and now Manchester is jumping on the bandwagon.

I didn't realise that Merseytravel scrapped the shuttle bus link from south Parkway to LJLA.

Arriva still do it, but it finishes at 7pm I think, no good if you have a flight that arrives in the evening.

They keep banging on about using public transport instead of cars, but what choice do you have?

Yup - the ferry is an absolute bargain!

'The most popular route is Porstmouth to Santander. The average price this month for this route is £264 for a car and two people each way.' (from the aferry website)

It is £35.00 each way from Southport to the JLA by Private Hire, and is obviously more expensive in a Hackney, may cost more using the Airport Parking, depending on how long you are going away for ? Just a thought, but you know your vehicle will not have been used, and left in a safe place back home.

If ever I have to use an offsite car park, I always take a photo of my speedo and fuel gauge, and I make sure the person taking my keys sees me doing it.

Whatever you do, if you use Manchester airport, do NOT use Flypark plus.
I wont bore you with the details, but we had a terrible experience and looking at reviews afterwards, it seems we were not singled out for special treatment!

We always book a taxi there and back - the driver has our flight details so checks online before setting out to pick us up on our return.

    Much less stressful!

Mind you, we don't use the airports very often!

Didn't know there was a ferry service from Liverpool to Spain!

They clearly have other reasons for taking a car to Spain - 7 hour drive to Portsmouth, 24 hours on a ferry, then a full day crossing Spain does not make any sense at all financially or timewise.

Once took a car to Greece, a full family in the car, two ferry crossings and it still cost more than hiring a car for three weeks plus the flights. Had some great stops - Normandy beaches, Bayeaux, Giverny, Lake Garda and Venice but it was more a touring holiday than a Greek villa holiday.

You’re quite right Einstein, there isn’t a ferry service from Liverpool to Spain, but there is from Portsmouth and Plymouth, they are both offer an excellent alternative to the cattle class service ‘offered’ at JLA.
