Snows one day a week in Bury.
We had a lovely walk in Horwich with the snow covered Rivington Pike in view before the cinema next to the unfortunately renamed Macron Stadium.

Yes old bean.
The Rivington Reservoirs
Constructed between 1850 and 1857 and designed by Thomas Hawksley the well known ‘three lakes’ of Anglezarke reservoir, Upper and Lower Rivington reservoirs together with Yarrow Reservoir were once the cutting edge of reservoir technology. Hawksley’s addition of filter beds to aid with water treatment was somewhat revolutionary and lasted for around 100 years until their replacement in latter half of the 20th Century.
This impressive chain of reservoirs spans the length of several small valleys that were dammed and flooded using seven structural embankments. The often overlooked High Bullough reservoir pre-dates the others and is notably smaller. High Bullough was originally constructed to supply water to Chorley.
There are a few resevoirs we walk in the area.
The Angelzarke is the largest.
Abbeystead Reservoir 2 miles (4 km) This short circular walk.
Anglezarke Reservoir 5 miles (7.5 km) This circular cycle loop.
Ashurst Beacon 5 miles (8 km) This walk is a moderate climb.
Astley Park 2 miles (3 km) This pretty park in Chorley.

Beautiful part of the world. Loved to go up to Anglezarke when I lived in Blackrod. Wonderful view from there - one of my all time favorites. The view from my house wasn’t bad either. Blackpool tower to the left, hint of the Pennines ahead on a good day and Winter Hill and Rivington Pike to the right. I loved living in Blackrod in the 1970s.

Lovely area though the view not as glorious as 1970's.
We have some nearer lovely view Haslingden Grane resevoirs.
One of the three particularly for its interesting old house foundation remains.
Today Mr Hamble and I were working close enough to meet for lunch and walked the Jumbles Reservoir which is in a Country Park.

The Jumbles rings a bell. I lived in Harwood, Bolton in the 1960s. Is the Jumbles up Turton or Bradshaw way? My friend lived on Bradshaw Road and I’m sure she took me up to the Jumbles.
