I happen to think that someone who makes inaccurate accusations against others, and then fails to correct himself, is "habitually nasty".
You claimed that Simon Hughes (Lib Dem) 'campaigned under the slogan "the straight choice" '. That's simply untrue.

Interesting piece on the whole sordid affair:

Here is one that is absolutely accurate, and current: Tim Farron is a homophobe

Our MPs voting record doesn't reflect liberal equal rights:
https://www.theyworkforyou.com/mp/11...outhport/votes
Has Cllr Dawson and Cllr Shaw been airbrushed out of the party, they've not been seen in any campaign photos since Sue was announced?
Cllr Dawson was once accused of being "ageist" in another "nasty politics" example, the apology (if it happened) was much less publicised:

I'm not aware of any basis for that.
However it is quite clear from what you have said that you are a homophobe.

Yes.
Councillor Dawson will remain Councillor Dawson. Nothing less, nothing more.
I have noticed his hair seems noticeably shorter nowadays. Must be an unfortunate effect of constantly bumping his head up against this Lib Dem glass ceiling...

Tony to Toni? He may need to "transition" to acquire the physical qualification to stand for the Illiberal Non-Democrats.

Either way my opinion is if you want local change pushed by your MP a miniority party may not be the best one, could be one reason it's not easy to pin many successes on our current MP.
Agreed.
She is probably their best candidate and has an impressive CV,

If he did transition from Tony to Toni to acquire the physical qualification to stand, then it would be interesting to hear her benevolent views on herself.
These are his (Tony's) benevolent views on women in politics,
"I would suggest that most women are far too sensible and considerate to their families to put themselves and their loved ones through the terrible strains required by the prolonged self-exploitation required to be a Lib Dem candidate in anything other than a ‘safe’ held succession seat. This doesn’t leave many seats for them to ‘go for’. Not all men are basically more selfish and inconsiderate but more than enough are."

It'd be interesting to see what Tony does next, feels like we hadn't heard from him for ages then we get a double whammy of welcoming decisions, maybe quite telling a "senior lib dem" prefers to "welcome" that late night kebabs are not welcome in southport but is yet to support the election campaign of Cllr Maguire.
Personally I think the Libs have gone to a new level of desperation and let selves down with:
1) those letters through the from people condemning the Tories with the tiniest print at the bottom revealing it's a lib dem leaflet promoted on behalf etc.
2) the A&E political football that Pugh, Maguire and Dawson can't decide who's "spearheading" as seems to change depending who's after what.... it is however only a petition
3) the "but he's not local" thing
4) lack of ideas with a plan to implement
My view is best candidate with integrity and energy is Liz Savage but Damien has the best chance of making positive change for the town as after all the Libs have delivered nothing but disappointment in the last 20 years....no new jobs, no new investment, no signs of improvement.

I should have thought the Lib Dem yesterday's man would have been overflowing with the benevolence to formally signal his support for the election campaign of Councillor McGuire.
Given, and working from, Tony's personal beliefs regarding women in politics...
http://thepotterblogger.blogspot.co....-lib-dems.html
...does his absence of support confirm that he considers Sue as being a woman who falls short of being like "most women", of being a woman who isn't sufficiently "sensible" or sufficiently "considerate to [her] family"?
(I wonder what Sue herself feels about falling short of Tony's benevolent stereotype?)
Or does his absence of support indicate that Tony is a man who is "basically...selfish and inconsiderate"?
Then again, marrying his two expressed and already-combined views could be read as an instructive confession from the mind and mentality of a basically selfish and inconsiderate man who is thus wilfully incapable of perceiving women in politics any other way than he does.
I should have thought that a prolific user of social media such as Dawson would have been keen to create a profile to engage with this thread. Amusing to think that there are occasions when Tony is a shrinking Violet.
Unless Tony already has a profile on this site.
In which case, it actually is probably "sensible" for him to remain a passive and suddenly absent wallflower.
