Interesting, I did not know that. However whether males on the shortlist or not I do feel they would've come out with the same answer as I can't see them wanting to take the risk of Cllr Dawson given his ability to polarise opinion.

Tony to Toni? He may need to "transition" to acquire the physical qualification to stand for the Illiberal Non-Democrats.

The key unknown is whether it was a "ban" or just they thought their best shortlist with a chance of winning were female. Cllr Maguire is probably their best candidate and there are no standout males in the ones we hear the most from.

Either way my opinion is if you want local change pushed by your MP a miniority party may not be the best one, could be one reason it's not easy to pin many successes on our current MP.

It'd be interesting to see what Tony does next, feels like we hadn't heard from him for ages then we get a double whammy of welcoming decisions, maybe quite telling a "senior lib dem" prefers to "welcome" that late night kebabs are not welcome in southport but is yet to support the election campaign of Cllr Maguire.

Personally I think the Libs have gone to a new level of desperation and let selves down with:

1) those letters through the from people condemning the Tories with the tiniest print at the bottom revealing it's a lib dem leaflet promoted on behalf etc.
2) the A&E political football that Pugh, Maguire and Dawson can't decide who's "spearheading" as seems to change depending who's after what.... it is however only a petition
3) the "but he's not local" thing
4) lack of ideas with a plan to implement

My view is best candidate with integrity and energy is Liz Savage but Damien has the best chance of making positive change for the town as after all the Libs have delivered nothing but disappointment in the last 20 years....no new jobs, no new investment, no signs of improvement.

Whether or not she is the best of the Lib Dem's local pool of talent is irrelevant - choosing people on the basis of gender is not right. It will reflect poorly on the town if she becomes our MP.

And I say that as a woman.
