More headlining! All European countries whether in the EU or not - use the driving licence from their own country, and are free to drive all over Europe. If you are travelling outside of Europe, you may need an International Driving Licence.

Along with, Aliens about to invade Earth, Armageddon is just around the corner and the Sun will fall from the sky! Actually, the UK outside the EU will be a more attractive investment for many business people because the EU regulations for goods are far too limiting. The majority of British companies traded outside the EU long before the referendum because the EU could not adapt readily to Global competition. Already there are new companies popping up all over the UK. On the other hand - there is growing unrest among the other member countries in the EU, it is in a very tenuous position.

I just think it's a right royal f&%^ up. The whole thing is crazy, May is going to be the scapegoat. The only thing she's guilty of is being stupid enough to take on this ***** storm after it happened.

The E.U. is not going to make it good for us. They can't, if they do the whole system will claps. We are going to be shafted good and hard.
Aha! A pessimist! I doubt whether you will notice anything being any different. You see only local issues in which most of the money created in Southport is funding Liverpool's mad hatter ideas, leaving Southport short of funding for improvements. But nationwide, there are already improvements, more investment due to not being tied to EU regulations, new businesses having less administration to contend with - hopefully more employment as fewer immigrants choose the UK and jobs will be freed up.

You live in cloud cuckoo land.

It's the bigger picture that the **** is going to hit the fan. Finance companies will move from London to the likes of Paris. Northern Ireland boarder will be a nightmare, Fishing quotas will go up in smoke. Along with farming exports.

I guess you have the same attitude as my parents had straight after the vote, That they don't care they won't be around to worry about it. I'll say the same to you as I did to them. Nice that you thought of your kids, grand kids and great grandkids. We are opening Pandora's box.

... plus the hassle of getting a visa.

Your EHIC cover will finish, leaving you reliant on private health insurance, which wouldn’t cover pre-existing conditions.

Emergency treatment in (for example) France would likely require you to leave your credit card with the accueil and have it docked accordingly, leaving you with the fun of arguing with some pen-pusher at the insurance company trying to convince them that your fall down the steps wasn’t prompted by your pre-existing heart murmur (or whatever).

    Not so.

    The following EU countries ...

Austria, Greece, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Italy, Slovenia, Spain.

... require drivers from non-EU countries to carry an IDP.

In practice, you’ll probably get away with not having one, but be you’ll be fined if stopped.

Nobody has ever mentioned having to get a visa to visit the EU - it isn't America.

The rabid xenophobic rags such as the Sun, Express, Mail, Telegraph have, at various times in their mission to stir up hatred of foreigners, reported on the evil EU planning to put you on the visa-needed list (you would slot in between Uganda and Uzbekistan). I won’t insult your intelligence by posting links as they’re easy enough to find.

What is more likely however will be the need, after 2021, to use the ETIAS scheme in order to visit Shengen countries - which although not as onerous as a visa application is still a cost and a hassle.

The EHIC is nothing to do with the EU. It's a reciprocal arrangement and covers you in Switzerland and Norway which are not EU members.

    Yes it is.

The agreement to use it in Switzerland and Norway is because of the relationship those countries have with the EU (free movement etc.). You are currently a member of the EU, hence your EHIC is valid.

When the UK is no longer a member, the status of EHIC will depend on the negotiated deal.

    Your government has said ...

«in the absence of an agreement on future relations that covers this topic, the rights currently enjoyed by 27 million UK citizens, thanks to the EHIC, will cease after Brexit»

If an EHIC Card is still in date it is ok to use, the scheme has now been replaced with a GHIC Card available on the gov.uk website but you can't use it in Norway, Iceland or Lichtenstein where you need Travel Insurance.

I spent many years travelling to and from Europe and other parts of the world and driving extensively on arrival.

An International Driving Licence was essential for most countries and had to be renewed regularly, but the charge was a very modest one.

There's no big deal about the requirement to acquire one.

    B) Not the EU's fault - it was us here who voted to leave.

With VERY good reasons to! If the EU wants to place puerile restrictions on UK citizens, then that proves we were right in doing so.
