Evil is an emotional construct. Psychopathy is much more rigorous and well defined in rational terms. He is not the only psychopath to have killed children, but he did become the most notorious of his kind due to a combination of circumstances. All that matters is the families that remain.
As your family came from the area, you would also know that it was suspected that there were more than just the two vile people involved. Brady's legal representative (who must have many sleepless nights) claims that Brady did not know where the little boy's remains are - does that imply that there was someone else who did?

I don't believe there was anyone other than Myra Hindley involved in the murders, but there were almost certainly other children besides the ones we know of. Hindley appeared with her puppy in photos taken by Brady on the moors, which enabled the police to pin down one grave. If you've ever seen those moors, you'll realise why they probably can't even remember themselves, though Hindley saw a visit to the moors to try to locate graves as a chance for sympathy and redemption in the eyes of the public. She was unsuccessful, of course.
