How do you answer the phone

I have just made a phone call and the person answered by saying 'Southport 224***'

If it's the house phone I pickup the hand set . If it's my mobile I press the green phone symbol.

I never answer the home phone. Everyone who knows me will use my mobile. Only people trying to sell me stuff I don't want ring on the house phone!

I just say 'Hello' then if it is someone who wants something, which more often it is - I make out I am not the one they want to speak to. My family know my voice, so it does not bother them.

My Grandparents used to answer with "Smith 324234". I wonder who decided that was how you should answer the phone back then? Was it a throwback to when all calls were routed via a physical operator?

I just say "Hello", unless the call minder on my phone shows that the number is a known spammer, in which case I ignore it.
