Housekeep

Has anybody out there got advice on what to charge for housekeep?
Offspring is 20+ and earns 20k pa

It's all changed now, But when I was but a lad I used to pay 1/3 of my take home pay. Wish that was still the case :-)

At that age and salary an equal share of household bills, utilities, council tax etc.

Food/grocery shopping is difficult as you can't really determine what is for general use or sole use.

You don't want to be too generous as they may never fly the nest

Like Crem 1/3 , my mother used to save it for when I got married to pay for my wedding. My wages was £21 per month as a cadet nurse, back in 1966. I banked a 1/3 and spent 1/3 on cigarettes & going out.

It was a family tradition that everyone chipped in paying the bills - the amount paid was in accordance to how much each could afford. This taught them where the money was spent and what they could expect when they set up home themselves. Right from the time they started earning they were also encouraged to set up various accounts for holidays, clothing and rainy days. They have each done very well with money, they buy only what they need and can afford to buy what they want when they want it. I suppose it really depends on how the parents are financially - my parents never had much, so I paid over everything except for my week's expenses for work.

I started on £4 a week, and hand to hand over £3 for my keep.
