Homebase
According to the Guardian - the Homebase acquisition has been one of most disastrous in history. An Australian company took over Homebase and has managed to write off £547 million due to a great many mistakes. Perhaps the first of these errors was in laying off the British management team completely.
Overseas investors taking over British companies do so with their own ideas and opinions in mind. They arrogantly dismiss the needs of the people and ignore climate of the country they are investing in. That is why it would have been essential maintaining the Management team.
There are so many areas where a good DIY store could be improved. What do you think would make such stores better places to shop in?

They have made Homebase stores look like jumble sales: stack it high, sell it (not so) cheap, poor quality tat. Such a shame. The Formby store has stuff stacked everywhere, you can't get a clear look at anything.
I'm only happy when it rains....

I think they must have done - four burner gas barbecues! Might be OK down under where the alternative is rubbing two sticks together for a fire to cook on!

When Homebase was trading in Southport I preferred to shop there rather than B&Q.

Orwell said "If there is hope, it lies in the proles." Whilst champagne socialists see diversity idealised at university, the common folk experience it first hand in their neighbour hoods.

It has always felt a bit of a poor relation to B&Q, which is better organised and has better presented ranges. For the nuts and bolts, so to speak, of DIY, I use Screwfix every time.

I like screwfix.
Order and pay over the internet and collect like fast food from a counter.
Truly if Mr H persuades me into any other DIY store I give him 5 minutes to view before taking the car keys.

Ha! That is what people say when they feel overwhelmed by another person - it's OK! I understand that people are left in awe of me, and I do not take offence - just don't do it again!
