    Helping hands

Right! I have been out yesterday and put grit down on the public path to the front of my house - have you?

    Sorry to titter,

Thought you meant a long arm grabber

No I haven't been out to clear the snow
It has been said that when helping people change their behaviour – “the spirit in which help is offered” is the most important aspect, more than the degree of skills and knowledge of the helper!

    Grit?
We needed a shovel for the snow.

It is so cold that running the bath with hot water is cooled without adding cold.

    Any tips on frozen pipes?
Our sink ground floor will not drain.
Tried hot water on the pipe outside.

In which case let them sue - it would make fine headlines. A case of the majority of sane people against the PC lot.

Pour warm water - definitely not boiling water - down the sink and use a hair dryer gently on the outside pipes starting at the tap end. Once you get the water running again, lag all the draining pipes that you can get to.
Warm the bath first with hot water from the kettle.
Place grit down directly on the snow, it will begin to break up immediately. If you have no grit, use salt, cinders, cat litter, sand etc.,

It will get sorted! Good Luck!

Ha!Ha! That would be fun! Perhaps if you are unable to clear the snow and ice, your neighbour may be good enough to help you. Then again - seeing as most of my neighbours prefer to walk very carefully over the ice on their paths all the time as opposed to spending a few minutes to clear it??

    Thank you said.
I cannot pour hot water down the sink-it is not emptying.
Using a plunger did not cure the problem.

Mr Hamble used buckets of hot water on the outside pipe plus hairdryer on extension cord with circuit breaker.
A little water did drip out not enough to unblock.

OK! It does take time! The water started to drip, but you do have to persevere. As you are warming the pipe, knock it gently from time to time to help loosen the ice. Also have you any hot water bottles? Use those along with the hair dryer by laying them against the pipe. Can you access the full length of the pipe that is frozen?
