    I remember as a small child (late 50’s early 60’s) my grandmother in formby had 3 taps over her kitchen sink.
    Hot, cold and soft, the soft was fed from a large galvanised tank that was fitted over the coal store and was filled by rainwater via the gutters and down pipes.

    Hard Water! You can tell from the fact that we have to use far more soap to get any lather!

    When I lived in Guildford Road many years ago, we could see one of the artesian well towers from our back window. Over towards Parbold.
