That would not surprise me at all.

While certain 'posers' one could name, wouldn't dream of spending half their Saturday picking other peoples rubbish in the rain. Fred is out there getting on with it, a real hands-on type of guy.....Imo, actions speak louder than words!

    Very funny!

Was simply passing by to elsewhere, my Saturday being otherwise committed.....However, have helped on past litter-picks along the Coastal Rd cycle path i.e. between Weld Rd and Pontins.

Wasn't Weavers one of the "bullying " councillors who shouted down the playground campaigners? Actions do speak louder than words.

He's never struck me as a 'bully'. Quite the opposite, I've always found Fred helpful and a good listener.

I believe on the occasion you're on about, he was attempting to clarify the situation re Ward funds and it's a shame some people tried to turn that against him. Subsequent to that meeting and further representations, the playground issue looks like it will have a happy ending - all the play equipment is being replaced with new.

The pics and reports from that meeting gave a different interpretation than yours, it is quite apparent that the main concern for a coterie of councilors was yet another waste of space and very speculative plan for yet another cycle path, on land not owned by the council and desirable only to a limited few.

Make up your mind....One minute criticising Councillors for conserving funds - then turn around and criticise same for spending funds!

Agreed, playground renewals are worthy goals - and todays kids are badly in need of more exercise. But it appears you were taken in by the rhetoric surrounding the 'playground' campaign, which took form of 'playground v cycle-path'. Haven't looked into it myself, but I'd doubt Ward funds would be used to pay for a cycle-path either. In which case, playing the one scheme off against the other makes no sense.

If you care to read up the reports, you will find that a proposal to pursue the cycle path scheme was agreed at the same damn meeting, it certainly looks like councillors were conserving funds for their "pet" projects rather than catering for ward residents, reality the playground scheme was a truly local project within the ward, cycle paths may or probably not be of any interest to ward residents.

Appears that is how the confusion arose. A minor scheme to create a few hundred yards of cycle-path to a school, just happened to go before Councillors on the same evening. A path that imo would not have been financed by Ward funds....On an evening when playground protesters were present and wanting to clean out the local Ward funds kitty.

Let's suppose Councillors had voted down the cycle-path proposal, I don't see how that would have helped the playground get through. I can understand the protesters disappointment when they failed to get the Ward funds. But to then oppose a cycle-path/safe route to school as a result, looks much like sour grapes to me.

Oh is he a Councillor in West Lanc's too? Why would someone who does not live in the Town need to consult him? Or is this part of your position as ICE (Imbecilic Cycling Executive) spokesman. What the hell has ANYTHING happening in Southport got to do with YOU? Just go away in jerky movements.

You stick to your interpretation as you will, but it was clear that existing funds were to be allocated to this cycle path, a truly speculative cycle path as the council did not own or control the land in question, plus of course there was no mention of this being a cycle track to a school at the time and clearly many people were aware of your mate's desire to build cycle tracks as a priority over and above anything else.

I would imagine your only interest in this is because it's your cycling partner in crime involved, if the option had been playground or public garden your interest would have been nil.

When will you learn that most people have little or no wish to see the interests of a minority take precedence over the more immediate concerns of local residents?
