Farmers shooting
It seems farmers can do whatever they like around Ainsdale. If it isn’t constant smoke from fires or the disgusting smell of the fertilisers, we have to put up with loud explosions at 7am in the morning - it has been pretty much every day this past couple of weeks, but mostly at weekends. I have heard them shooting as early as 5.30 - 6am over the past few years too. I live off Liverpool Rd, so not as though I am really close either. They don’t give a toss about anyone else.

The local farmers were shooting game long before most of the houses were built, the residents should take this into consideration when moving into the area.

Round our way, they set up gas-guns in the fields to scare birds off crops....As for muck-spreading, it's a practice as old as the hills and enriches the soil. Something worth bearing in mind next time you bite into a carrot, etc.

I live near there and quite often walk the dog on the field. Sometimes I see the farmer with a gun but a lot of the time it's automatic bird scarers that make the loud noise. To be fair, the amount of birds that settle and feed there if the farmer did nothing he would have very little crops.
This thread is similar to those in Formby who live near Woodvale aerodrome and complain about plane noise. It's life and we all have to live it.

I live on Guildford rd and I miss the sound of shotguns and church bells on a Sunday morning.

Through the day isn’t the problem it is the fact they are shooting so early in the morning. If I was out making that noise at that time in the morning I would be getting complaints from the council. It isn’t the firecracker type bird scarers by the way, it is loud gun fire.
Who cares about the farmers being allowed to make money for allowing people to shoot the birds/wildlife there by the way? It should never be about making money, only to stop the crops being destroyed or seeds being eaten - not for sport.

Well most places were probably farmland at one point - and many of the people were living in houses in the area long before the individual farmers. I don’t live next to the farmland I live off Liverpool Rd, which is why I would never have thought I would get smoke filling the house when they are burning off the land, the stench of the fertiliser (smells like pig slurry) or the sound of gunshots at 6 or 7am in the morning. Farmers don’t own the whole area.

I have planes flying over my house from Woodvale all the time - that doesn’t bother me in the slightest as it isn’t at 6 or 7am in the morning.

There are less smelly fertilisers available than pig slurry.

When the wind is blowing in the right direction we can smell it in Hillside.
The Early Bird Catches the Worm.
Birds seek out food most actively early in the morning.

Have you never heard of the dawn chorus? When all the birds awake and start searching for a mate or calling their flock in therefore there are a large number of birds in one place who need to be scared away - unfortunately at dawn. It would be pretty pointless to go shooting or set alarms at a time when the birds aren't there.
And besides, the farmer has to deal with people too. Despite there being a designated path and a map to show the permitted right of way there are still some idiots who feel fit to let their dogs off lead to scramble around the fields or those who let their dogs crap on the path and don't clear it up. Some even crap in the fields, ie the crops that you have on your roast dinner. One was good enough to bag the crap up but then left it swinging on the handle of the 5-bar gate for the farmer to find - niiiiice!

You really can't get better than a natural fertiliser. Animal slurry is one of the best.
& seriously if you can't stand it move into a city. We have Farmers shooting, we have air cannons, we have the Altcar Rifle ranges which allow our troops & reserves to get the qualifications they need for shooting. I suppose you'd object to Sunday Church Bells as well? They are all sounds of the Countryside.
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms ... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants, they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

True, yet I guess a farmer will accept whatever type of manure comes his way...it's all good stuff!

For starters natural, organic fertilisers are not spread throughout the year, the guns you hear do you know what they are? organised shoot? or if they are in the same place each week possibly a clay pigeon shoot.
If you live in a rural area the sights, sounds and smells of the country are one of the joys, or not as the case may be.
I read on another post a complaint ref; smoke from burning fields off, farmers are not allowed to clear fields of unwanted vegetation by burning, would suggest tracking the source of the smoke, probably find it's someone close by with a wood burner or multi fuel stove.
