FOOTBALL UNDERDOGS - PREMIERSHIP - THE Gap & the Banter

Last seasons thread name was so appropriate.

FOOTBALL --------------- New Season and NOT the old Story

This season it is all about money

welcome every one to a new season 2016 -2017

This season I have one of the legends of British Football to help me predict and discus the games this season. It is said the 1966 world cup winning team was moulded around this man. He would have been Captain and not Bobby Moore, but due to a tragic event, the cause of history changed and we had to play extra time in the final.......... If he had played, Germany would never even of scored a goal in the final. He is The STIG of Qlocal Football thread. This year the thread is called FOOTBALL --------------- " ANew Season and NOT the old Story "......... Lets hope this season's winning team is an Everton or a Liverpool and not one of the BIG teams like Man U or City or Chelsea or Arsenal, could it be Spurs or even Leicester again. I think I have just named the top eight teams....................... but what order. ?????

Burnley, Sunderland, Middlesbrough are theses the three team destined for the drop.

look forward to reading all your comments.

Bill I'm a little confused as to what these stats represent .

    My top three are.....

    Chelsea .

    Man City.

    Arsenal .

    For the drop.

    Middlesbrough.

    Burnley.

    Crystal Palace.

And I agree with your comment about last seasons thread title .

LFC . For the FA cup.

Well the top 4 are in place, which order they will be in at the end of the season we will have to ask the Mayor of Liverpool, soon to be Mayor of Merseyside. He predicts Everton to WIN both a new stadium and the League
    .

It does not look good for Liverpool or Stoke

as Leicester was 5000 -1 last season

I wonder what odds you would get for Stoke, Liverpool for relegation.

    1 Man City 3 6 9
    2 Chelsea 3 5 9
    3 Man Utd 3 5 9
    4 Everton 3 2 7

    5 Hull 3 2 6

    7 Spurs 3 1 5
    8 Arsenal 3 1 4
    9 Leicester 3 0 4
    10 West Brom 3 0 4

    THE GAP IS TILL BLUE

    11 Liverpool 3 -1 4
    12 West Ham 3 -2 3
    13 Burnley 3 -2 3
    14 Swansea 3 -2 3

Very good weekend for Everton and Liverpool, Not so good for Man. U

Lukaku 11 minute hat trick scored just after the commentator on the radio had said he has not scored in so many hours now he will probably go and score a hat trick

IT PROBABLY IS UNFAIR TO SHOW THE GAP AT SUCH AN EARLY STAGE IN THE SEASON. BUT WE HAVE TO REALIZE that this is going to be Everton's season. Leicester has had their lucky season, that is in the past, winning the league because every other top team played crap.

    This season is different.

Now that all the top teams have revamped, Man U, Man C, Chelsea, Arsenal, also Spurs, Liverpool. This is the six teams that the top 4 will consist of according to the pundits.

Can Everton be the shock team of the season.

With no European football this may give Everton the edge in the league. All Everton's 3 wins have been against bottom 10 teams.

Liverpool's shock loss against Burnley and the shock result against Leicester. Makes you think that Liverpool's performance is like a YoYo.

Everton could be top after the next 3 games.

    1 Man City 4 7 12
    2 Chelsea 4 5 10
    3 Everton 4 5 10

    THE GAP IS BLUE

    4 Man Utd 4 4 9
    5 Tottenham 4 5 8

    6 Liverpool4 2 7
    7 Arsenal4 2 7

    8 Hull 4 2 7
    9 M'brough 4 0 5
    10 Watford 4 -1 4
    11 Crystal P 4 -1 4
    12 West Brom 4 -1 4
    13 Swansea 4 -2 4
    14 B'mouth 4 -2 4
    15 Burnley 4 -2 4

There is something immensely reassuring about seeing a top seven containing the old "big five" plus the moneyed newcomers - Manchester City and Chelsea.

Leicester were a great story last season, but they don't belong in this company.

Liverpool have already taken 7 away points from 3 of the "top 7" with Burnley being an aberration that hopefully will not happen again. Everton to play another cellar dweller this weekend so, it's already an enthralling season.

Hi Nick, enjoy the game last night? I did, early days but liking how we looking early on. Burnley aside, we have done the business properly against the others.

Long way to go for all. Not sure when Everton play anyone decent but good on them too, they are looking much better under Ron than they ever did under Bobby BS.

United looked a bit rattled losing against Pep's City, Mourinho already moaning

Yes, the fixtures have been kind to Everton so far, but you can only play / beat what's in front of you.

All the "Top" teams will take points off each other over the course of the season, what they need to do is maximise points off the "Cellar dwellers" as you call them, dropping silly points to the basement clubs could prove costly in May.

There's a different feeling around EFC this season and there are some positive signs, new investment, a top manager who's not afraid to speak his mind, who has brought in some quality players.

Bolasie looks to have taken a step up in both fitness and form.
Gueye may prove to be one of the bargains of the window at just £7M
Williams, we knew exactly what we were getting, solid defender / leader.
Stekelenburg, happy with him, glad we didn't pursue Joe "Head & Shoulders" Hart.

Not getting too carried away as we are only 5 games in, but things look and feel much more positive, I'd be happy using this season to steady the ship and kick on in 2017/18.

I think a realistic target this season (in light of last season) should be top7, but you never know.

    .

Liverpool's away defeat against Burnley may be the difference between Liverpool joining Everton in the top 5 at the end of the season. Lets hope I am wrong.
