I went a couple of years ago and found it very interesting, I guess it depends on what you expect.

Well laid out, you go round in a self guided route wit an audio guide I thought it was OK value for money wise, If you can ignore the fact that so much opulence was lavished for a private holiday getaway.

If you are a fan of oriental food, go to Yes Sushi (not to be confused with Yo Shushi)

Its a 5 minute walk from the train station. Order the Hot Pot, its delicious. In fact it was so good, my wife and I went twice during our week trip.

Tour Bus day ticket is great with on board Guides each giving a different take on things - some recorded some live especially on the Vintage bus.

I agree, its money well spent, walk the Golden mile, the Castle is a must, jump on the Bus to Leith and see Britannia (they also have a restaurant) Wrap up!

Real Mary's kings close is interesting too, tour of underground streets.
For food; drink and live music in an evening the grass market has plenty to choose from.
