    Easter Day

Everyone knows that December 25th is Christmas day every year. But what date is Easter? Why does it keep changing?

According to the Bible, Jesus Christ's death and resurrection occurred around the time of the Jewish Passover, which was celebrated on the first full moon following the vernal equinox. This soon led to Christians celebrating Easter on different dates.

Well you can't have Good Friday and Easter Sunday on the same dates every year can you!

It would undoubtedly make a lot of sense to have an early spring bank holiday say in the first full weekend in April and if the few people who actually celebrate Good Friday (Easter Monday has no religious significance) have to take annual leave, it's no different for those who take leave for Eid, Diwali or the Chinese New Year.

It is not unprecedented, I believe that the Spring Bank Holiday was once tied to Withsun (happy to be contradicted) and I vaguely recall that churchgoing families were allowed to take their children out of School on Ascension Day - although you are probably going back 50 years for both of those - to less secular times.

I think so, Whit Monday was always a Bank Holiday, now it is just set as the last Monday in May.

You've reminded me of one of my favourite songs. Although the lyrics are very sad, they are so beautiful.

Too bad that the person who uploaded it to YouTube didn't know how to spell Whitsun.

Yes, nowadays it's classed as the half-term break at the end of May going into the first week of June

Ah! But THAT particular date was defined by the actual day - it had a specific date!
