My dog (greyhound) has never jumped up at anybody in the 6 years I have had her, since she retired from racing.
The most she ever offers, if anyone asks to stroke her, is a rather tentative nose and frequently not even that!
You shouldn't judge or condemn all dogs from your limited experience.

It's not the dog that's a pain in the arse it's irresponsible dog owners.

Dogs sometimes will react when they feel threatened, and 2 of the worst things I come across are joggers and cyclists, passing a dog walker on the pavement,as they assume a dog on a lead is safe, but when they startle the dog,it will tend to react to them as they pass, similar to a vehicle passing a horse without the driver slowing down.

And here come all the predictable responses from those who own what is potentially a wild animal.
Please be aware that due to visual impairment I will occasionally post typos in error.

Funnily enough I get the same sort of reaction to your Hepatitis Post.

After seeing what that pervert and his boyfriend from Knowsley Rd did to 14 year old boys I'd rather have a house full of dogs.

Hot headed dogs and hot headed people need cool responses.

The forecast for lots of cold water over the North West is welcome.

Two things wind me up about responses to this item -
the first is those who insist on responding with 'I've owned a dog for umpteen years and it's never done this that or the other blah blah blah blah' - good for you - give the boy a biscuit - not the dog coz the sugar etc etc. This obviously exonerates the rest of the canine world - honestly - give me strength!!!
The second is those who feel other users of the pavement (cyclists excepted) should not assume a dog on a lead is under control. It is you who have the duty to ensure that. It's not for the rest of us to make sure we keep to some doggy commensurate 3 mile limit in order to avoid being mauled or nipped.

So I am not allowed to comment about my dog when Roving Eye made such a silly generalisation? Dogs like people are not all the same you can't just lump them altogether and criticise.
It depends on how they are brought up. Some people should not have pets just as many people are not fit to be parents!

How many dog owners do you know who have taken the trouble to get their dogs trained? I have come across just two in Southport. While all the others claim that their dog would never.......etc.,

Not if they do not know anything about the animals. People considering owning a pet should think about what it really entails. There were people in town yesterday, dragging a forlorn animal on a lead through town - busy areas with very hot concrete pavements - when the animal would have been far happier lying down in the shade with a water bowl.
