You may be correct Mr Grassroots, but if you had of had a posh accent as well as being employed as you say you might have earned more than the minimum wage.

Probably yes - if you applied for a job in a call centre!

Absolutley not and in many cases helps to defuse/promote situations depending on the need..
Having a Scouse accent seems to make people more at ease with a Pom than any other UK accent. Thats what I've witnessed anyway.

Well, I would say - and there are studies to back me up - that a strong "city" accent can limit job opportunities.
For example, I would say that a scouse accent would hold a person back if going for a job in Manchester.

Studies have been done where a job applicant - with a strong working class "city" accent - has telephoned a firm to arrange an interview and has not been invited to apply for the job, but that same person has rung back later using a more "proper" accent and then got an interview.

Well thats the difference, Ive never phoned for a job interview?

Always managed to get the Scouse charm in after, aptitude, physical and more aptitude tests. I would of loved a simple phone call. LOL

A Liverpool accent sticks out a mile in Manchester.

Many years ago a Southport accent was distinct from a Scouse accent.
Now when I visit Southport everyone has a Liverpool lilt.
