Distances 'as the crow flies'
I'm currently job hunting and using various websites, I've set search parameters to 10 miles of Southport. I regularly get notifications of jobs in Blackpool, 30 miles at least by road!
Surely sites should use the road distance (or available means of transport) not as the crow flies.

It's a PITA search on Ebay upto 10 miles and you end up with Cleveleys, 25 miles narrows it down to the Wirral, East Lancs and up to Lancaster

Perhaps it is just in case you get called for an interview and request reimbursement of your petrol costs?

The software these companies use just draws a circle with a radius of the chosen distance, ignoring the fact that it might involve a sea crossing!

If you get a good enough job in Blackpool and it pays well enough to justify the fuel cost then go for it, it all depends what type of work you want.
Blackpool is just around the coast about an hour away and I've seen people travel further for work but if you are expected to bus it there or use public transport then the whole idea of working there is nonesense.
Whenever I think about working in BLackpool I imagine working doing something at the Pleasure Beach, Blackpool job centre will be full of jobs there around about now. I suppose it all depends on your situation, what you want and how much you want it.
