Some of the older members on qlocal may know the “Barton” family by their family name of Naidoo, they changed it to Barton in 2005.

Back in the seventies, the town was shocked by rumours 'leaked' about the conditions, the cruelty and low standard of care given to the elderly in certain rest homes, while the owners of these homes drove around in the most expensive cars and lived in big houses. Many people, including disgusted care workers - made official complaints naming the offending owners, but nothing was done. People assumed that this was just another case of 'protected' rich people whose criminal behaviour was being covered up. While nothing was actually published, conditions did start to improve. By which time many patients had been removed from the homes by relatives, the elderly with no relatives were left to suffer.
This case is not an isolated one - there are many reports of similar cases of abuse of the elderly in rest homes all across the UK, with far too many people, having no right whatever, anxious to part the vulnerable elderly from their life time wealth

But this case isn't about poor conditions, abuse or low standard of care.

It is! That's how these care home proprietors make their money. I've personally witnessed another 'name' in Southport regularly stocking up in Tescos with a trolley packed full of the cheapest bread, beans, margarine, etc.etc. and that is not for his family use I'm sure but for the poor sods who pay over the odds to be fed cheap crap.

I've personally seen £4.99 bottles of Aldi wine being sold at 'posh' Birkdale wine bars for £18 - is that abuse too?

I only found that out the other day.
Some of the stories I've heard from staff who have worked in his nursing homes about his penny pinching is unreal. One worker told me he used to water down the milk, another said he's always buy the cheapest ingredients etc.
I hope he dies in prison.
As for his son, I was parked on the rank the other week and he was pestering some painter who was painting the shop fronts on Lord Street by stopping him working by talking and taking photo's, the painter didn't look too happy.

No because no-one is forcing you to buy the wine and you can always go elsewhere.

Absolutely! There is an element of free will involved whereas the poor sods in the nursing homes have no hope or Bob Hope - they're stuck with it.

"Southport's most costly criminal trial ever can now be talked about in the media for the first time in 14 months as the Judge in the case of Care Home Owner David Barton's fraud and theft lifted reporting restrictions"
Yet Qlocal won't allow comments to be posted under news articles on the subject and The Other Site aren't even reporting on it at all. No coincidence that both sites have aided a certain Barton family member's relentless self promotion over the past few years.
Stinks.
