If you compare life under Mr Chavez with the previous 20 years, under a now discredited two-party system widely blamed for rampant corruption, the Chavez era is preferable.

But if you look at the superior economic performance of neighbouring Brazil and Colombia during the same period, it suddenly doesn't look so rosy.

Orwell said "If there is hope, it lies in the proles." Whilst champagne socialists see diversity idealised at university, the common folk experience it first hand in their neighbour hoods.

Please tell me why anyone who isn't a swivel eyed, right wing, raving loon is automatically a communist, you know very well that I have total 100% distrust of Tories and everything they stand for, I am a million miles from being a communist.

Corbyn is certainly well to the left, but I see no trace of totalitarian communism, in fact given the opportunity I am quite certain that your beloved Tories would love to create a totalitarian one party state, with them in charge obviously, if it ever came to that I know which I would prefer, would always opt for the party with vestiges of humanity and conscience, characteristics lacking among far too many Tory politicians, when you see the back bench minister for preservation of the 18th century being touted as potential PM, then we should all take cover.

I notice that many of Chavez's policies are described as "ad hoc and firefighting" somewhat akin to the disorganised rabble WE currently have in charge.

There is much confusion about the differences of socialism and communism and has been since the Cold War. There are many forms of communism, just as there are many forms of socialism. In the UK, we are a democratic socialist society.
As far as Corbyn is concerned, it is the translation of the intentions of certain societies that can be potentially dangerous. He is a member of the Fabian Society, that claims to seek a full socialist practice while itself is funded by capitalists. Their intentions are to prevent revolution in favour of Government persuasion as a more peaceful means to obtain what they see as a perfect society. Most of the Labour leaders are members of this society. Again, it is in the translation of intent where the danger lies.
I disagree with Corbyn because he furthers the Political Correct notion where he seeks to entreat vicious criminals and murderers to persuade them to follow more peaceful solutions. It will not happen! Greed and Corruption will always take precedence over any other reasoning. For someone who is tasked with being a leader - he is very naïve.

    Well Saudi Arabia for one.
Yemen - but they must marry the child first, however the child can be any age.
Lebanon - again they must marry first.
Cambodia - famed for sex tourism - looks the other way
Most of Africa - has no laws against child pornography.

Yemen has a minimum age of 15 to marry, Lebanon 17.

Red herrings from the lefties as usual.

Try looking at the consent for marriage in religious law.

Worldwide: Highest and Lowest Ages of Consent By Country

In some areas, most prominently in less developed countries, the age of consent can be a very gray area, and violations may not taken seriously. Some locations do not site a specific age of consent, leaving it more open to interpretation than the countries with more concrete laws.

The highest Age of Consent in the world is 21 in Bahrain. The second-highest age of consent is 20 in South Korea, while the majority of other countries have an Age of Consent between 16 and 18.

The lowest Age of Consent in the world is 11, in Nigeria. The age of consent is 12 in the Philippines and Angola, and 13 in Burkina Faso, Comoros, Niger, and Japan. Japan often stands out as the only developed country on the list of lowest ages of consent, but local prefecture statutes in most areas of the country raise the effective age to 16-18.

Additionally, several Middle Eastern and African countries have no legal age of consent, but ban all sexual relations outside of marriage. This has raised concerns by many international organizations, especially in some countries where girls are married at as young as 9 or 10 years old. Countries with marriage-based ages of consent include Afghanistan, Iran, Kuwait, Libya, Maldives, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and the UAE.

Ah but you see the religious courts have authority over marriage in such countries. So in Lebanon a man may marry a child with the parents consent and that relationship follows the rules of the religious court or the ethnic community from which the children come from - therefore she as his bride must do her wifely duty. That is why campaigners are trying to make it so that a judge must approve a marriage rather than the religious courts.

It is the same in Cambodia. So while the legal age is 15 - the ethnic communities in the rural areas it is considered that if a girl marries young it is a reflection of her great value. Marriages before puberty are common and they often give birth to children at a young age. The law is not policed or doesn't really apply.

In Yemen - the law to set a minimum age of 15 was repealed by the parliment after pressure from Muslim conservatives who argued that Sharia law does not prevent child marriage and that attempts to stop it are a western ploy. Children are commonly married off for the dowry's or to save the family looking after them. There is also a high rate of death from children that are forced to have sex with older husbands.

In such countries judicial laws are hard to enforce and religious courts such as the Sharia courts are used more widely - especially in remote and rural areas.

Muslim law generally states that it is ok for a father to arrange marriage of his daughter at any age without her consent. They justify this because Mohammad was allowed to marry Aa'isah when she was 6. Some state the child should be older than 9, but again in poor rural areas this is ignored as young girls are seen as a commodity.
