The LibDems seem to be massively outspending the other parties on their election "knocking copy" leaflets. We've had more than a dozen addresses through our door and some of those have been personally-addressed and franked. I do hope someone will be doing an audit to ensure that they haven't exceeded the permitted limits that are set nationally and locally for each candidate ....

Did you not receive a personalised letter from Theresa May as most people in the UK did? That must have cost much more than letters from your local candidate regardless of their politics.

This is interesting in relation to the printing costs which may still be happening and why there's so many leaflets (none that different from the other or showing what they have done or will do):
The printing could be seen as somewhat hypocritical from our Libs say that "we should shop local" when there's no use of local printing firms, the only local seems to be employing councillors.
However to be fair both the Libs and stories have put far too many leaflets through my door....I personally dislike the ones the Libs have used a font to make it look like a handwritten or hand signed letter with the smallest possible font saying that it's "promoted on behalf of etc"

I don't object to getting a letter or two from any of the parties. My point is that the LibDems have already sent at least 12 (with a week still to go) and I suspect that they are ignoring the permitted limits for spending that have to be adhered to.
(They're also the most objectionable letters because they are couched in such negative, snide, language. The LibDems are such a nasty bunch.)

Is it not the truth that you are singling out the Lib Dems because you personally do not like them, and your post was just an excuse to have a go at them?

I was just going to start a thread on this myself. We get Lib Dem leaflets and letters practically every single day. It is ridiculous! There are 4 of us of voting age and they are addressing letters to every one of us (even though we are not on the open electoral register to avoid junk mail). They must be spending an absolute fortune on this. This has been going on ever since the election has been announced, not just the last couple of weeks. They must have a large amount of money to waste to pay for this. They go straight in the bin. I hope they don't support climate change policies, as they obviously don't care about the environment with all this wasted paper. I thought it was quite naughty of them to post a letter (with yet another leaflet) to me from a former Chair of the Royal College of GP', as the way it is set out makes it appear that is her current post on first glance (most of us don't pay much attention to this sort of mail). In it she is criticising the Conservatives, but although we are seeing a fall in amount per head for NHS budgets, we have had a massive increase in NHS funding, but when we have had an increase in population of 6.2 million since the year 2000, it is hardly surprising all services are struggling.
Here are some figures on NHS expenditure:
NHS net expenditure (resource plus capital, minus depreciation) has increased from £75.822 billion in 2005/06 to £117.229 billion in 2015/16. Planned expenditure for 2016/17 is £120.611bn and £123.709bn for 2017/18. http://www.nhsconfed.org/resources/k...ics-on-the-nhs
In response to the person asking, we have only had about 3 leaflets from the Conservatives (and nothing addressed personally, unlike the majority of the Lib Dems leaflets which are sent by post) - we must have had about 30 from the Lib Dems so far. As I said, it is ridiculous.

It's true that I'm not a LibDem supporter, but no other party has littered my doormat with so much shite over the course of the election. We've had only 3 missives from the Tories, about 5 from Labour, none from UKIP and at least a dozen from the LibDems. It is excessive - especially given their nasty tone that doesn't focus on issues but rather on slagging everybody else off - and I bet that the spend breaks election guidelines.

OK I sse that.
I am a lifelong socialist, and yet Very little communication from Labour, do they not care about Southport?
The odd Tory leaflet and a letter from May, are they a little complacent.
Lot of stuff from Lib Dems, tells me they are putting the effort in to try and win.
No visits though, from any candidate or their people.
I doubt that any spending rules are being broken to be honest.

With their leader's return to his default position of not denying that he believes that gay sex is a sin,
Lib Dems deny Tim Farron is anti-abortion after comments from 2007 interview surface
Party leader was quoted as saying abortion was too widely available and 'wrong'
The Liberal Democrats have denied claims that their party leader is opposed to abortion after an old interview emerged in which he said the medical procedure was “too widely available”.
Tim Farron, who is a practising Christian, spoke to a Salvation Army publication in 2007 in which he said the medical procedure was “wrong”.
“Take the issue of abortion. Personally I wish I could argue it away. Abortion is wrong,” he told the publication, unearthed by the Guardian newspaper.
In the interview Mr Farron went on to say that abortion was “wrong at any time” and that it was “too widely available” and needed “tighter restrictions”.

...it's unsurprising that locally the Lib Dems have felt a state of urgency in pushing the envelope (or in pushing a battery of envelopes).
What a load of waffle that has nothing to do with subject of this thread, if you want to moan about their leader, then start a thread instead of trying to hijack someone else's thread.

Hardly waffle, I'm afraid.
Widely reported controversies over their leader Tim Farron's stance on gay sex and abortion, and stagnant and fading poll ratings, are hardly trivial matters for the lib dems.
I've provided a pertinent range of factors (and supporting links) providing the motivations for why the lib dems would be issuing their reported deluge of campaign literature.

Waffle in support of your dislike of your version of Mr Farrons views, about which I have no interest at this moment.
Start a thread if you feel that strongky about it.

I must have the wrong address or something, currently Tory bin fodder outnumbers the rest, including a phone call allegedly from the office of Theresa May, that was good fun, they haven't called again
