Change in Speed Limit on A565 between Mere Brow & Banks?
Is it just me or has the speed limits changed on that stretch of road since they started installing the new speed cameras.
Could of sworn it used to national speed limit but it's now 50mph.
I can even see where the national speed limit sign used to be which has now been removed.

Correct. The speed limit has been reduced. It is all part of an income generation scheme for Lancashire Police.

It's a kerching! scheme to fleece the motorist. They'll soon have it down to one of those dumb *** 20 mph zones, no doubt.

Why has the limit even been reduced? Are there even many accidents on that stretch of road due to speeding?

The Police don't set the limits, just enforce them, the income goes to the Treasury.

Hardly any accidents along that stretch in recent years.

Along with other measures like junction/roundabout improvements, it's likely to have been reduced due to the sheer volume of traffic now using that route.

The "sheer volume of traffic" quite naturally reduces speeds without the need for dumb limits with new fines revenue.

The income goes to Lancashire Police and their road safety partnership. ££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££

How is it that motorways are seemingly very safe and have people traveling along them 24 hours a day 7 days a week at 60mph - 110mph, but a short dual carriageway and long, very wide straight road that very rarely has accidents is reduced to 50mph? Very odd.

Heavy traffic on a dual-carriageway can also cause frustration, when an impatient speed-merchant gets held up behind a slow overtaking manoeuvre ...The one held up then accelerates to a ridiculous speed and becomes a danger to others.

Motorways don't for example have things like caravan sites along them. Or local traffic, inc bikes, tractors, horses etc, crossing/joining/leaving the carriageways, often at right-angles to fast-moving traffic....

So, by your own definition, reducing the speed limit by 20mph will further hold up "speed-merchants" thus leading to yet more "danger to others"
Funny old world ......

Not so. If 50mph is the maximum speed allowed, there's far less difference in speed between vehicles. Which in turn means little or no reason for overtaking.
