Problem is, some people are afraid to send their kids to school on foot or bike due to there being too much traffic about....So they drive 'em there, which further adds to the traffic chaos!

Or walk to school. The majority will be within walking distance, same goes for most schools around Southport. Laziness is the only explanation.
I'm only happy when it rains....

There's an accident waiting to happen at the junction of Lord Street and Portland Street.
If you approach the junction from Portland Street, there is a traffic island ahead of you which will prevent a right turn. If you want to go onto LS to go towards The Monument, you are expected to turn left, and go up LS to the Duke Street roundabout, and come back.
But what people do is to try to do a U turn at the end of the traffic island, in front of Wetherspoons. The space in which to make the turn is limited by cars parked on both sides of LS. So many drivers cannot complete the U turn in one, and have to go at it several times, all the while presenting a hazard to traffic coming along Lord Street.
I can't believe it is being allowed to continue.

I've lost count of the times my taxi driver has done a u-turn here to drop me off at Wetherspoons outside the Coronation Walk entrance.

U-Turns
And also the ones who do U-turns in front of The Atkinson from one side to the other, coming down Lord St towards Duke St roundabout and then just change their minds and go back the way they were heading from.
Eastbank St near Superdrug is another popular place for doing that.

Not all u-turns are illegal.
