    Sport Another Britannia fail

I like to pop into Baron's Bar in The Scarisbrick for a Sunday pint or two of real ale, because, despite the dreary interior, they have a good selection.

Went in today and it was closed due to the one bar person on the rota not turning up and not phoning in. I was assured that they were phoning off duty staff to try and get someone in. The fact that they have another bar in the hotel (no real ale but staff on) plus another hotel just down road, didn't seem to have occurred to 'the management'.

So I went elsewhere and called in a full hour later. Same again, and the receptionist said it 'wasn't her job' to get staff in.

I think it's time for Britannia to step aside and let a proper company run these prime location establishments in Southport. Not being able to find one staff member says a lot about the staff's desire to work there.

No doubt some on here will say 'get over it' but this isn't about me - it's the image that is presented to visitors to the town.

Yes, but £1.50 dearer. It's only 5p dearer in Wetherspoons.

But the point isn't that - if I want to go in a certain bar, shouldn't it be staffed?

Yes, I wasn't questioning your post I was offering an alternative

You'd assume there was a manager on duty, surely they should step in if that happens? Probably think its beneath them.

    Britannia

It is no longer owned by Britannia , it is owned by a company called Best Western Hotels who also own The Prince of Wales and Southport's very own WW2 prison camp known as Pontins. It ceased being anything to do with Britannia a few years ago.

Not according to their websites, only Southport hotel on Best Western is The Royal Clifton, Britannia website lists both the Scarisbrick & P.O.W and Pontin's website list Britannia as the owner.

Best Western in the UK, don't, I believe, own any hotels. They are a marketing group. None of the aforementioned are on the BW website. I think that Britannia are the operators (and owners of the freeholds/leaseholds).

    Best Western

According to Trip Advisor, they own The Prince of Wales.

I think the PoW was sold to Brittania by Best Western not the other way round.

    Best Western don't own hotels.

It is a an organisation intended to market independent or small chain hotels competing with the big groups.

But because BW members do not commit to any common standards the brand doesn't mean much.

Do Britannia think the homeless would lower the tone?
Can the tone be lowered any further anyway?
