Started at night apparently. Odd how litter-bins, vandalism of seafront, etc, also takes place under cover of darkness.....

What's odd about it? Vandalism happens where and when it's unlikely to be witnessed.

Hope it remains contained.

It could have been started by the low early morning sun shining on a piece of glass or more probably been gently smouldering overnight before bursting into flame or even by Gypsies trying to distract the Emergency Services from the crimes they are about to commit elsewhere!

Could be any one of a variety of causes, agreed. Yet the ground has been very dry for several days with no probs, that is until the Saddleworth outbreak appeared on the news - and bingo they're springing up everywhere.
A person has already been picked up for starting one of them. Further, the Saddleworth outbreak had several separate 'seats'. I find it hard to accept those several simultaneous outbreaks could have be down to a natural cause, like sunshine on one piece of bottle-glass, or a discarded cig.
With people using vehicles as terror weapons, blowing up tube trains, pop concerts etc in the last couple of years, I wouldn't put it past one of that ilk to have taken advantage of the dry conditions to cause some mayhem. Then impressionable idiots elsewhere join in the party copycat-style.
