    Affordable Housing Development Farce

    I could not fathom out why suddenly so many people needed a new house. We were first informed that there was insufficient houses available to house the immigrants. Not that immigrants have got that sort of money anyway, and what was wrong with the 1.5 million houses for sale in the UK already? The fact is that only a small percentage of new estates being built are allocated to Housing Associations who rent them out.

    Where at one time, Banks were the culprits who railroaded legislation and manipulated the property market by hiring the most astute legal personnel to manipulate loopholes - it is now Property Developers who have taken over. Using highly persuasive means to obtain tracts of land - green belt or otherwise - to build and develop at will. Property Developers build large estates of new houses, which have provided a financial skim off for councils to invest in Schools, Hospitals, etc.,while making massive profits for themselves. In many instances, cheaper materials and procedures have been incorporated to increase the profits.

    The Council Planning Committees evolved to protect the countryside from the encroachment of the towns, rather than to make the cities larger. Planning is not for building modern concrete buildings - it’s about protecting our countryside. By reducing legislation from 1300 pages to just 65 pages - it has allowed our cities and towns to be cannibalised and become those non-places it set out to protect.

    As one house-builder puts it simply, “The system is ripe for sharp developers to drive a bulldozer right through any council legislation.” And they will continue to do so with supercharged glee, squeezing the life out of our cities and reaping rewards from the ruins, until there is something in the way to stop them.

    another con in all this newbuild affordable housing sharedownership build .is that most arnt like the solid bricks an mortor builds of our parents and our generations .but of build lifespans of 50 yrs.some of the old prefabs will still be standing before these newbuilds will need major restricts .so new morgagees arnt buying anything more than a trailer park build that wont have any offspring legacy value.in other word a depreciating asset!.

    The only subsidies in the housing sector are in the benefits system funding or part funding the outrageous rents charged by the private sector, something far wrong when monthly rents are much higher than the average mortgage, when so many can't get a mortgage due to deposits and irregular employment.

    So the rent should be less than the mortgage on the property? Well that make financial sense to private landlords doesn't it!

    Landlords shouldn't be having the property bought for them out of the public purse.

    I am fascinated by what is deemed as "affordable housing" affordable by whom. There is NO assistance to get on the housing ladder and with such huge deposits being required, our Children are destined to a life of rental property or going to the bank of Mum and Dad (not that we are in any way able to help our kids).

    Then you get the rental farce, you think by going through an agent you are better off?? you pay for this check and that check, then there is hefty deposits etc. if you go through a Private Landlord, you could end up in a dump, and the cost of renting in this town is wickedly high.
    Obviously money to be made if you are an agent or whatever, but grossly unfair on those working incredibly hard to make a living, especially when those who choose not to work (and I do not mean those out of work through no fault of their own) get everything paid for them.
    Time this "affordable" housing myth was put to bed for once and for all and property was made "affordable" to all
    my glass is half full - or is it half empty I can't remember - too many glasses to be clear!!!

    So are these people on benefits able to get a mortgage for the properties in question?

    Is there alternative accommodation for these people to live in?

    Or do you just want them sleeping on the streets?

    As there sure as hell isn't enough council housing in the area for those that can't afford to buy.

    Agreed, my grandparents and great grandparents all lived in privately rented accommodation with very few rights and moved about quite a lot as we researched with the help of “Seeds Directories”

    My late mother and father started married life in a rented flat before buying their first home (they lived there until they both passed away).

    We bought or first home in 1981/2 when the mortgage interest rates were 15%, bloody scary at the time, but through hard work (both my wife and I) and careful budgeting we managed.

    Yes, it’s hard now, but it’s never been easy.

    Yes, but this is a legacy of when the Local Authorities / councils sold off their housing stock for a fraction of there true market value and stopped building homes to rent.
    The situation is one of their own making and now they are paying for it, literally by having to put money in private landlords pockets.
