    A mutter on the pier

''Southport is truly unique, an English sea side town like no other.'' This is a recent muttering I overheard by a long-haired gentlemen who was extremely tall, but yet had such incredibly obvious small feet, as I walked along one of my most favourite spots in the world. Southport Pier.

The toddler sized shoe wearing gentlemen was walking in my direction with what seemingly were a group of his friends. I say group of his friends but perhaps indeed the gallant mutterer was a spontaneous have-a-go ambassador for Southport who had decided to merge into an unassuming group of ice cream gobbling tourists that where bravely endeavouring to navigate the cracks and loose fixtures of the piers somewhat weathered, although apparently newly refurbished, underfoot structure. Either way the Gentleman was indeed completely correct. Southport is of course if nothing else, truly unique.

Ah! So you overheard me, did you? Well, to set your mind at rest - the remark was a negative sarcastic response to the state of Southport.

Plenty of Ice cream gobbled up along the pier today I should think. Mr Whippy will taking Mrs Whippy on a holiday with all the money he has earned. Perhaps they'll go to Iceland.

Wouldn't be surprised if people are actually paying such high prices for just an ice cream cone, £2.99 - £3.50? You can buy a large tub of the stuff in the Supermarket for £3. Cones £1, Sauce £1, Dips £1 for eight cones = 75p each! Each of the Ice Cream vendors in town have an identical choice - apart from one on Lord Street that did make its own.
