Over 6000 have been caught by the average speed cameras at Banks in the first year of operation.

i.e. the true speed limit for that road before the artificial lowering of the speed limit that arrived with the cameras. Obviously a money making scam. TomTom still shows 70 mph as the limit for that stretch of road.

I'm convinced some people never bother to look for posted speed limits, or even to check their speedo - they just 'drive'.
Btw. Back in the day, it was fully derestricted i.e. no speed limit.

The speed limit has been imposed because of the number of contenders for the Darwin Awards in the area, the speed cameras have been installed to enforce it. Also nearly half the offences were for speeds over 70mph.
If you are driving down there at 60mph and somebody flies past you and forces you off the road you would soon be complaining.

Be grateful they don't enforce the 20mph in
Southport.
This thread actually confirms the belief we
are a nation of whingers.
You know the rules , if don't like it go live
elsewhere.

Or stay and challenge the regulation-obsessed numpties and their sad servile fanboys. This once great nation has reached a pretty pass.

The 20mph limit is periodically enforced on roads when the residents complain about speeding, e.g. Fylde Rd, Hesketh Drive, etc.

Are you sure about this? I recall reading a newspaper article some time ago that confirmed nobody has yet been fined in the U.K. for exceeding 20 mph. The belief was that this was because even the powers that be recognize how unnecessary this particular limit is in the majority of cases.

Fylde Rd instance was reported on here, approx a year ago. Hesketh Drive was also reported, with clear pic of police using a speed-gun at foot of bridge - catching vehicles eastbound. It's likely they have also been active elsewhere....As for fines I have no info, it may be that only warnings were placed on drivers police records. But I doubt there have been no fines to date, particularly for higher speeds - e.g. someone caught doing 40mph in a 20mph area.

Drivers are given 'Words of advice' but will also be checked that their documents are all in order, so when you here that x number of tickets have issued they don't relate to speeding but to other offences.

So take a motorbike on the path and you can ride at 100mph!
