20 mph Zone - Accidents reduced by 65 percent
Cheshire West & Chester introduced 20mph Zones in 2016 and it has lead to 65% reduction in accidents and 40% in the 'Killed & Seriously Injured' category.
Surely it is time to expand and extend these zones and bring them into the villages and country roads.

Road deaths increase after speed limits cut
Bath and North East Somerset council said that it could not afford to reverse the speed limit change, which cost £871,000 to bring in on 13 new zones a year ago, even though the rate of people being killed or seriously injured had gone up in seven zones

Why don’t we just go back to having a man with a red flag walking in front of all vehicles?

Councils have so far spent £11 Million on creating these 20 mph zones despite their being no evidence that they have any effect on accident rates. In addition to the Bath and North Somerset INCREASE in fatalities and serious accidents, reports from Hampshire and Manchester showed no improvements in safety. And yet the madness and money spending continues...
Isn't it good to know that local councils are rolling in money for hare-brained schemes like this. Remember that next time they whining about "austerity".

Lets not forget this (20mph sign in Ainsdale cul-de-sac)
A road sign warning of a 20mph road speed limit has had a bad reception among locals - because it was erected at the end of a tiny cul-de-sac.
Motorists in Ainsdale have slammed the sign as a 'joke' and 'waste of money' due to its location on a road junction where any driver would be unlikely to build up such speed.

Fine! Reduce ALL roads to 20mph. It would take more than three hours to get to Manchester, just under three hours to get to Liverpool, and ten hours to get to London. Let everyone get a pedal bike, do away with Fuel costs, Fuel taxes, Insurance, Road Tax and Parking Fees. How long would it be before the Government relented and decided that Joe Pedestrian should be more responsible for his own carelessness?

Where are you setting off from if it would take three hours to get to both Liverpool and Manchester?

The above photo was taken by me, published in the Visiter who then forwarded it to the Mirror. Didn't even get an acknowledgement.

Off Guildford Road apparently. Which "tiny" cul-de-sac would that be?

A) You'll only see improvements in road safety when people abide by the speed limit....Simply hanging metal discs on lamp-posts will have no effect if they are ignored.
B) Avoiding/reducing severity of road injuries has potential to save the NHS a lot of money every year - no doubt well in excess of the one-off cost of 20mph signs.

If you drive along Sussex Road it's 20mph until Ash St lights, then it's 30mph for all of 50 yards then back to 20mph!

Speed alone does NOT cause most accidents, no-one would deny that impacts at lower speed will do less harm than at high speed, the concentration should be on improving the standards of all road users, thoughtless and downright idiots are the biggest contributors, this applies to all road users.
For instance accidents involving cyclists is very high in London, one of the major continuous causes is cyclists riding up the nearside of left turning vehicles particularly buses and HGVs, no matter what you think or say, those cyclists are putting themselves in danger, very often in situations where the vehicle driver has no chance of seeing them.

I lived on Guildford Rd. almost opposite Central Avenue for many years. It's hardly a tiny cul-de-sac is it? Consequently I cannot see the problem with the speed restriction sign at its entrance.

I have no knowledge of the area I was looking and comparing on Google maps/street view, perhaps Fourbrick3 can shed some light?
