2019 season The last nail in F1 coffin?
I've just been checking out when the 2018 F1 season starts (25th March Melbourne) and what I can see on TV. As in previous years C4 will be showing a mix of live & highlights programs, courtesy of Sky. Fine so far but next year it will be shown on Sky only. So as far as I am concerned that's it for F1. I will never see another race. Will it be the end of F1?
only able to be seen by those who can afford it.

SKY clearly believe there will be enough who will pay their exorbitant fees to watch, I hope they come unstuck, not just because of F1, but more because SKY are looking to dominate TV in this country, then we will only see a world according to Murdoch who is trying for control of SKY again.
BTW I'm with you, will not pay out extra to watch even more ads.

How much does Sky charge? I pay $55.00 (about 30 quid) to Foxtel here each month. For that I get the full sports package plus around another 20 entertainment channels. Not to mention free to air which is licence free here. That's a hell of a lot cheaper than being part of the crowd at one sporting event each month.

The SKY coverage of F1 is excellent.
The programmes they broadcast alongside the races provide a full comprehensive view of the sport.
Unlike terrestrial companies they do more than just show the races.

It may well be excellent coverage, but so is C4 & it's free. I refuse to pay to watch any TV partly because I can't afford to but mostly on principle.

Seconded. SKY F1 is excellent.
F1 isn't going anywhere, It's a testing ground for new technology.

It's a personal choice. But I'm sure you will spend money on other pastimes, hobbies or entertainment that are important to you and your family.

Not just about money though is it, Sky are looking for a monopoly to take a dominant position and even control of what we see, hear and even read, all at the whim of the Murdochs of this world, we as a country are already controlled far too much by the money men, when this cabal control the media as well, you can forget all thought of real freedom or democracy.
This may sound dramatic, but we are already seeing just how much political propaganda can be poured out from sections of the media, in many cases facts or evidence are not needed.

My fear for F1 is that the American owners will ruin it from 2020.
They want to take away the individuality of the teams and have it like Nascar, all cars the same so that they get different winners almost every week. No wonder Ferrari and Renault are thinking of leaving.
Please be aware that due to visual impairment I will occasionally post typos in error.

I'd say they have less control now than they did say 10 years ago. Netflix, youtube and Amazon prime have change the way many people watch T.V. My kids rarely watch conventional T.V. any more.
Political propaganda has existed since time began.

It's still a personal choice. Nobody is bound to pay for TV, or even watch it at all. I choose to pay for satellite tv because it's a damn sight cheaper than going to the movies or, any sporting event a couple of times a month.
I have absolutely no interest in political shenanigans whatsoever. In spite of everything that has gone on in governments both here and in the UK over my 80 years, I have made my own bed which, I find reasonably comfortable.

If you go back to the agreement made by Sky in 2016, the British Grand Prix and highlights of the other races should be broadcast on a "free to air" channel from 2019. No details of this channel seem to be available but it can only be on Freeview.
The far more exciting in my estimation, MotoGP lost a massive amount of interest when BT gained the broadcast rights from the BBC. The BBC commentators, Charlie and Steve were the most knowledgeable and funny pairing ever in the history of motor sport.

There are a number of sports which owe their popularity initially to regular TV broadcasting.
