At 2.30 am on Tuesday night a white male entered our flat from an unlocked back door. To get to this door he has scaled a fence and a wall. He entered the flat walked round, turned on the kichen light then came into the bedroom and stood over us shouting 'Your Weird'.. He then legged it out of the front door as we shot out of bed. The landlord saw him runing out of the flat and recognised him. The police were called but naturally did not turn up. When after other calls were made in the morning they sent a PSO round to see what had happened. The result is that it is not a criminal offence to walk into someones house in the middle of the night if the door is unlocked. It is only an offence if they damage, steal or threaten. So on that basis i can walk around southport going into any unlocked houses day or night, walk into bedrooms of adults, kids, elderly etc and talk to them so long as i am not threating them... Go Figure...

The world has gone mad, I always thought that if someone enters a property without being invited , was tresspass, although this is difficult to persue, Did the police interview this nutter.?

Oh yeh, picked him up as he was already on warrent. But no charge as Trespass is civil...

A friend of mine recently bought a house in Southport and while the purchase was going through, someone broke in and changed the locks.

After completing the purchase, she went to the house and this guy turned up and said he lived there as a tenant and had been granted a tenancy from the former owner. The house had been repossessed over a year earlier and the former owner lost all rights to the property.
My friend called the police who surprisingly did arrive but then the man produced a tatty bit of paper which he said was his tenancy agreement.

The document was clearly fake but the man had the audacity to claim that he was entitled to be there.

The police then said it's a civil matter and let the smirking man stay in the house. My friend now has to fork out over a thousand pounds in legal & Bailiffs fees to get him out, while he lives rent free.

This could only happen in this country!!
