    large antique cairoware inlaid tray

    hello john

wondering if you know anything about these, its a large cairoware tray , 19th century egyptian, probably once a table top but has two rings/hooks on the back for hanging.

inlaid with silver and copper, quite large around 50-60cms in diameter

the reason i ask is because i see them on christies website, some sell for 200-300 and some for 2000 pounds, i am trying to find out the difference between a £200 one and a £2000 one?

    thanks

It is the Arabic writing that makes the value.

Islamic prayers, or readings from the Koran can make a brass £20 table top to or wall hanging in to being worth £200.

I have just bought one of theses Brass table tops for £5

Egyptian. Hammered into the top Kings Regiment 1945

i see them on christies website
I have no idea what the value of yours is, Christ knows.

Take a photo and send yours to CHRISTies

    briana

The item I bought (Kings Regiment 1945) probably came out of the Officers Mess.

never saw a trench, but I did see a profit.

yes, lol, most trench art never saw a trench, most was produced in the engineering sections while away on war

glad you made a profit but that was never in question for a fiver.
