    Unusual vintage brass lamp

    Hello John,

What do think of this unusual brass lamp? Would it have been screwed to something originally? It is 30cms tall.

    Thanks

a lot of items like this may have been put together over the years from different parts, gas and electric. In the 1970's this was quite the normal thing to do.

So the base plate may have nothing to do with the rest of the item.

A hole in the base plate obviously means it has been screwed down, may be on a ship, nautical items normally swing on a gimbals. May be on a pub table or in a bank on an office desk.

The hook style on one of the feet and the feet not matching looks interesting, giving the impression if it is a made up item, the base could have been mounted on a wall. The hook to hang something on. or may be just the design.

Interesting, but has no great value.

In auction with the plug cut off £20-£30

It looks like it has been rewired.

    But has no inspection label.

    good luck.

Hi John and thanks for your reply.

I really like to buy unusual old items that catch my eye like this one. I too was thinking that it may have been in a pub or on a ship but hadn't thought it was bits put together. On closer inspection I think you are correct. I am going to get it rewired as it has a switch on it which makes an unsettling electrical noise and the lamp gets very hot!

    Thanks again
