Visitor's gripes.
Mumsnet had a discussion on the lack of amenities suffered when staying with people over Christmas.
Top gripes were.
1.No gravy at dinner.
2.No lock on the toilet door.
3.&4.no spare hairdryer or bin in the bathroom.
Can anyone add or sympathise with the above?

Definitely!
Or when flushing the handle just flicks spent.
Another annoyance is the slow filling cistern that only allows one flush per 5 minute window.

If the person before you flushes the loo then 5 minutes waiting for the cistern to refill is a long time to wait to flush after a wee.
The last hotel we stayed in had that problem.

3.&4.no spare hairdryer or bin in the bathroom.
Thought it was unsafe to use a hairdryer in the bathroom.
Do the guests expect friends to get special wiring done just for them?
Why not use a hairdryer in the bedroom instead of clogging up the bathroom when other people might want to use it?
Why would you expect a private home to necessarily have bathroom door locks?
Just write a note saying 'in use' and leave it on the door knob!
You sound like the house guest from hell. Do you ever get invited anywhere a second time?

Are we talking hotels or our homes?
1. I don't do gravy or 'nowt moist' instant granules will save the day
2. if the door is shut bathroom is in use
3. I have little hair so no use for a hairdryer, bring your own
4. What for, put it in the recycling or main bin else flush it (PPP)
To add my own
Don't hog the remote control.
Don't wait to be asked, put the kettle on and make me one whilst you're at it.

3&4 are lacks in order of gripeness not a room by room inventory.
Yes I would expect a bathroom door to have a lock.
Failing that every bathroom should have a free standing cupboard
easy to use as a boulder against the door.
In the most direst emergency I can myself vouch for the efficacy of a rubber or material bathmat rolled up and strategically placed.
We regularly have house guests.
All our bathrooms have working locks, bins in the bathroom and after reading the ('mumsnet' )posts on the subject via a tabloid article I shall jolly well make sure a hairdryer is placed in the spare room along with the ironing board and iron.

Easily solved, if all are about to go out and there is a stampede for the loo if it's a wee don't flush till the last person goes or it's a number 2
I have family members who basically ask what you're about to do to determine the order

We have locks on our bathroom doors, but darling 4-year-old grandson who was staying over Christmas worked out how to unlock them from the outside - so no sanctuary there!
Obviously, have bins in the bathrooms - who doesn't? Also provide a hairdryer, tissues, and bin in guest bedrooms.

Homes.
No.2
Good rule though in practice most visitors close the door after use.
No.4
Ladies have needs of a bathroom bin that men do not particularly girls of the teenage variety.

How can you open an inside lock, presumably a sliding bolt, from the outside? Even Dynamo would have problem with that, and should not the darling child have been discouraged from this practice, or at least attempting it, at the earliest opportunity?
