Merseyside Police can confirm officers are currently at the scene of a robbery at a jewellers on Lord Street, Southport today, Thursday, 23 November.
Officers were called at around 4.40pm to reports that a Land Rover Defender vehicle had rammed the premises and that possible suspects on motorcycles had been involved in the incident. The vehicle was alight and MFRS were in attendance.
No persons are believed to have been injured. An investigation is underway and CCTV, forensics, and house-to-house enquiries are ongoing.
Lord Street is now closed between Neville Street and Bold Street and road users are asked to take an alternative route.
Detective Inspector Tony O’Brien said ‘’This would have been a shocking incident to witness on what is a busy road. There will have been lots of passers by on foot or in vehicles.”
Anyone with information, mobile phone footage or dash-cam footage is asked to contact Merseyside Police on 101 or the Crimestoppers line anonymously on 0800 555 111’.

It says a lot about the standard of policing in this town that professional criminals are willing, and able to successfully complete, a jewellery raid 400m from the main police station.
A mate of mine who lives on Lord St heard the incident and went to look. He got there ten minutes before the police by which point the car had already burnt out.
No surprise really, I'm still waiting for the promised visit from CID 4 years after my house was burgled..

Proof yet again that Merseyside Police are a complete waste of time and space in this town. They do not give a damn about tackling criminals that are causing havoc in this area. They are frightened of the criminal fraternity to the extent that they are given good solid information of activities that the Scum are up to but turn a blind eye and do not take action. #merseysidepoliceareuseless #merseysidepolicearesoft #merseysidepolicecouldnotcatchacold

Try directing your anger at a government, which says crime is falling and we have no need of high police numbers.

Southport has got as bad as Liverpool for serious crime
Incidents like this and all the Bank raids and personal attacks and drug busts are now commonplace.
I call the Liverpool Echo the Daily shootings, stabbings, ,robberies and drugs News.
The Champion and Visiter are going the same way.
And the police keep telling us it's unusual don't worry.

And there was me thinking that the the complete tool I heard trying to break the land speed record on a bike on Sussex Rd about that time was just another suicidal speeding dick head and not an escaping robber ! Then again, maybe he was just another speeding ******** .......

There is NO anger. It’s fact based on evidence. Do you know how many police are sanctioned to this area at night? Do your homework and find out. THEN understand why the police are not dealing with crime. In my opinion it’s because they do not have enough back up and colleagues in the area to call for back up when something goes wrong. Too frightened to confront criminals in case it turns nasty and they come off worse. That and countless other reasons. Like a criminal justice system that fails the police and society (good society) and favours the scum.
Why is somebody who burgles a home or commits a crime against a law abiding citizen then allowed legal aid paid for by us good law abiding and tax paying citizens to defend them. You burgle me then my taxes from legitimate earnings go towards defending you and getting you off the hook.
We have a really crazy imbalanced society and ethics. I just don’t understand

YES I do, the present government are on their ideological austerity kick which has failed in every way, but they have no other way to even think.
Why is it beyond common sense to realise that just cutting funds, slowly but surely destroys the service, which will then cost a hell of a lot more to restore to a practical level.
