A cyclist who failed to stop at the traffic lights at the junction of Liverpool Road and Kenilworth Road got more than he bargained for today.
The cyclist failed to spot that the car he undertook was an unmarked Police car.
He was pulled over and given a ticket for traffic offences.

Serves him right!
Maybe he would be more considerate if he had to pay road tax and ride on the cycle paths that we pay for!

Glad he got done though.

There's no cycle path at the scene of the crime and payment of roax tax doesn't automatically make drivers of cars considerate so i don't see your point.

Road tax ......... there hasn't been a road tax for years ! The last car tax was emissions based ...... the new one is based on emissions and the value of your vehicle. So under both a bike isn't taxable.
Cyclists already pay for road maintenance the same as any car driver. They do this by paying Council Tax !! So cyclists pay for the roads too.

The sad thing is that's pretty well normal for cyclists at traffic lights, have only once seen a car drive through a red light junction, with cyclists it's usually standard riding.

Cyclists do not pay for any road maintenance or anything else for that matter there is no mechanism to collect anything from them for cycling.
I quite like my tax free, parking charge free, payment free, cycling...........
The pedants I suppose could look at the VAT on cycles and parts to justify their tenuous arguments.

Well - he will now! I guess he will have to pay a fine, just like car drivers!

You useless "TWUNT" Muppet, try being a responsible road user... like buy some insurance? If you really want to 'ride a bike' get to Manchester Velodrome like the rest of the serious cyclists, use the cycle paths 'as a considerate road user' and learn you're not above the law.............! Southport 'part-time' lycramenralists are just about the the worst for observing the highway code, about time the bizzies prosecuted them. Call this 'cycle-town', humph, more like a morons-charter....... Won't be long before there's a "You-Tube" channel for "Riding Like A TW*T".....
Hang your heads in shame...................!

Not every cyclist pays Council Tax....only those who are householders. Lets get our facts straight.

I've seen several near misses by cyclists that ignore the red light at traffic lights so a lesson learnt I think.
