It would appear we were a little hasty last week in reporting that the 'Market Quarter' sign on King Street had been fixed after three years.
All that appears to have been done is the black gaffa tape has been replaced with grey gaffa tape.
Local Councillors have been approached for comment.
Local Lib Dem Councillor Tony Dawson says:
"These signs are a relic of the 'spend. . .spend. . . spend' conspiracy between Southport's top Conservatives and Bootle Labour councillors - the deal was done between them to support both the ever-more-expensive market re-vamp and the new Netherton Activity Centre. Between them, these two projects gobbled up millions of pounds of public money."
"Sefton Council spent nearly £100,000 on these 'magic market markers'. Before that, they were trying to spend the same amount of money on a few granite benches outside the market. When they cry 'austerity' they always seem to have thousands more to waste."
"I am sure the grey tape blends more tastefully into the damaged signs than the previous black tape did. This is 'Sefton Style'. :-( "
"Meanwhile, I have every sympathy for the existing market traders, trying to operate out of a very badly designed building paying high rents while the project overall continues to lose money."
"If they cannot get that eyesore market monument fixed then it should be taken off the street. Surely, it at least has scrap value?"
Typical Sefton.
There was no need for a market sign before the disastrous 1974 reorganisation. It was run then on the lines that a market of this nature should be run and was thriving.
I'm amazed the few remaining stallholders have not yet quit en masse.

well times must be hard!the original gaffer tapes lasted 4yrs.and now the councils replaced it with a really inferior brand of sellotape.public health and safety obviously isn't a priority ,and trading standards are failing in their duty ,as well as the councils duty by not persuing the erectors of their statutory guarantee of suitalability of provision,of goods and services.

The usual rant from Dawson. Has he bothered to actually contact the relevant department at the council to find out if a proper repair will be done. Or is he still pretending that "Sefton" solely relates to a small village near Maghull whilst still collecting his councillors allowance from Sefton of course.

Cllr Dawson slamming Sefton council for something, hardly top news, the man would probably slam them for the leaves turning brown too early.
Guess the Lib Dem’s dont realise that slamming but not actually achieving anything underlines that a Lib Dem vote for Southport is a wasted vote both locally and nationally

He's too busy slamming them to reply to constituent's emails. Been waiting since 27th June for any reply or acknowledgment from him.

Probably too busy with his colleague cllr shaw writing “press releases” and on the other Southport news site tattling with anyone who casts doubt on the Lib Dem’s or praises another party. To me, their behaviour is not acceptable of an elected representative, hopefully the ballot box recognises that and also lack of achievement....if they were going to achieve something surely they’d have done it by now.

Original tapes that were used before were of good quality therefore they managed to last for four years. Visit https://www.edugeeksclub.com/ homepage to find well-known dissertation writers. I have seen it with my own eyes that Local Councilors have replaced them with the inferior brand which is not a good thing.
