Sefton Council is calling upon dog owners to ensure that their dogs are kept under control in all public spaces.
A Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) is now in place to keep Sefton’s public spaces safe and to protect the environment and wildlife throughout the borough.
In relation to the order, dog owners are required to pick up their dog’s mess, walk no more than 6 dogs at one time, keep dogs from entering enclosed playgrounds and prohibit dogs from entering marked or fenced sports pitches during specified times.
Dogs must also be kept on a lead within defined picnic sites and family areas in parks, within all public roads and footways, within all cemeteries and crematoria, and under any direction from an authorised officer.
It’s important to remember that dogs that are not under control can frighten people and young children and may have an adverse effect on those suffering with allergies.
Additionally, dog foul is not only an eyesore but also has damaging effects to the environment and dogs that are not on leads can unwittingly disturb protected wildlife.
The PSPO has been in place since 13 July 2017 and will continue to be enforced for the next 3 years.
Anybody who fails to comply with this order will be guilty of an offence and will face a fixed penalty notice of £75.

We keep hearing about the new rules and penalties re: dogs and I agree they should be under control and their mess should be dealt with in poo bags and disposed of responsibly.
But. . . .
If only we heard more about ' Calling all parents. Your offspring are YOUR responsibility' as well.
Yobs, thieves, vandals, drunks, druggies etc are products of your lamentably lacking parenting skills. Hold parents liable to pay for damage caused by their out of control offspring or if they are on benefits how about giving parents community service to carry out and at least make their sad lives useful to society while other agencies attempt to make something half way decent out of their progeny?
Don't try to make out that all society's ills lie at the hands of dog owners, most of whom do act responsibly. As with people, it is the few who give them all a bad name.

Cycling up Pinfold Lane a couple of days ago I saw a man exercising his dog in the Children's playground on the corner of Gleneagles Drive, throwing a ball for dog without a care in the world for the sign on the gate which says "No Dogs Allowed". Simply selfish and ignorant.

My friend who lives nearby tells me that the playground is popular with druggies in the evenings. I suppose society deems them preferable to dogs out exercising. As usual the majority of responsible dog owners are penalised because of the actions of the minority,

If you go for a stroll in one of our lovely parks away from traffic you don't want to be treading in dog muck or dodging dogs that are chasing balls thrown by selfish owners or having one of those long leads around your legs. Owners of dogs on leads are terrified of dogs off leads attacking their dog, small children are being knocked over or worse.
And dogs on or off leads are blatantly allowed to rampage or pee on flower beds that have taken lots of time and money to plant and maintain. And I am a dog lover.
